John “Jack” G. Turner (1940 – 2018)

John “Jack” G. Turner, 77, of Mansfield passed away Sunday, January 7th, 2018. He was born on October 6th, 1940 in Durango, CO to Jack C. Turner and Marie L. (Graham) Turner.  He grew up in Vernal, UT where he earned his pilot’s license at the age of 16 and later earned his B.S. degree in Business from Utah St. University.  He also served in the Utah Army National Guard.  In Vernal he met the love of his life, Bonnie Jean Adney, and they were married August 7th, 1965.  They have been married for 52 years and have 3 children.  In Utah, Jack was a business owner and farmer.  In August 1979 the Turners moved to Arkansas, where he began his dream of full-time farming on Blackjack Mountain.
With the support of his wife and kids, he worked to clear land and forged a successful chicken, cattle and hay business.  He loved his family, farming, and riding his horse Dovey in team-penning competitions.  Jack and Bonnie traveled Arkansas and Oklahoma to watch their grandkids’ sports and livestock activities. He was an active supporter of 4-H, a member of the Farm Bureau, a former president of the Sebastian Co. Cattleman’s Association, and was the recipient of the Sebastian Co. Farm Family of the Year on two occasions.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; three children, Kimberly (Glade) Evans of Oologah, OK, Colby Turner of Mansfield, AR and David Turner of Houston, TX; five grandchildren, Brinley Evans, Meghan Turner, Colton Turner, Declan Evans and Abby Turner; one great-granddaughter Whitleigh Turner.
Memorial Service will be held at the Mansfield United Methodist Church on Friday, January 12th at 11 a.m.
