Don’t count the Waldron Bulldogs out just yet. Although struggling to add a win to their season, the boys are starting to pick up pace and getting better with each passing game. The Bulldogs were away in last nights conference game against the Greenland Pirates. Ending with an 11-2 loss, Waldron is dusting off and preparing for their next game.

“We were just slow coming off of spring break,” says Coach Mark Brigance. “We simply weren’t sharp seeing the ball off the bat defensively. Offensively we struggled to hit the ball squarely, which is a positive sign because we did put the bat on the ball.”

Running like the wind with one run each was Seth Hunt and Caden Fuller. With one hit each at the crack of the bat was Caden, Ruben Valdez, and Braden Williams. Assisting with runs batted in were Ruben and Tyler Owens with one apiece. Pilfering bases for the Bulldogs were Ruben, Seth, Braden, and Caden with one steal each.

Pitching for Waldron was Seth Hunt and Tyler Owens. Tyler threw out two potential steal threats on the bases from the catcher position. He made 33 pitches to 9 batters striking out one. Seth Hunt pitched in relief for the Bulldogs. He threw out 80 pitches to 24 batters striking out 3.

Blake Owens led the team with six putouts. Caden Fuller made three routine plays in center field and one spectacular play while going to the ground to rob one in the gap. Drake Carnley and Braden Williams earned four and three putouts respectivley. And with one putout each were Ruben Valdez and Patrick Poor.

The Waldron Bulldogs are slated to play next the De Queen Leopards at De Queen on Thursday, March 28 at 4:30 p.m. Coach Brigance had this to say about the upcoming game. “We’re going to throw some younger guys verse De Queen but if we can continue to improve on scoring I feel we will do fine defensively.”
