The Greenwood Bulldogs beat the Panthers 61-7 in Friday night action

The Bulldogs made the trek to Northwest Arkansas for their second round of 6A West Conference play. Siloam Springs came into the matchup 0-3 with losses to Rogers Heritage, Greenbriar and Alma.

Greenwood received the kick and went to work quick with Hunter Houston finding Grant Karnes for the TD the point after attempt would fail. Siloam Springs would get their chance to answer back but that would come to a halt, Landon Nelms would intercept the pass taking it deep into Siloam Springs territory. Houston would again find Grant Karnes on a pitch, Karnes would take it around the end for the touchdown. Kick would be good putting the score 13-0 with 7:35 left in the 1st Quarter.

Siloam Springs’ next drive would end with a punt. Greenwood would take over with Hunter Houston passing to L.J. Robins in the end zone. Steven Duran’s kick was good, score at 20-0. The next Panther drive would end like the previous with Siloam electing to punt. Hunter Houston spreading touchdowns around to his teammates finds Peyton Presson to put six on the scoreboard. The Duran kick would split the uprights getting the score to 27-0 with 2:17 in the 1st Quarter.

Siloam Springs would punt again and the ‘Dogs would take over at their own 44. Senior Running Back Jake Glover would take the hand off 57 yards for the Touchdown, Duran’s kick was good.

The defense would make their presence known on the next two possessions. Eli Whitaker and Brady Mackey would get back to back scoop and scores. The Steven Duran kicks would be good with the score sitting at 47-0. Siloam would have better ball control on the next drive but elect to punt. On the Greenwood offensive possession a fumble would be scooped up by Freshman QB Kane Archer and he would take it in for the touchdown of the half. Steven Duran would add the point after for the 54-0 score.

Siloam would punt on their next offensive opportunity. Archer would throw an interception on the next Greenwood possession, setting up Siloam deep into Greenwood territory. The Bulldog defense would stay solid and stop them in the Red Zone. Greenwood would then run out the clock to go into halftime 54-0.

Starting off the 2nd half, Siloam would punt on their first drive of the half. Archer would find Sophomore Scott Holland for the final Greenwood touchdown, point after was good score is at 61-0. In the 4th quarter Siloam would get points on the board making it 61-7. Both teams would trade punts to finish out the game.

Asked about the Defensive play “Give our defense credit, we had kids that were ready to make plays and they made it.” said Head Coach Chris Young. With the game in hand, as the Bulldogs have done in the past, the Bulldogs find themselves in a tough spot. “Ya know, it’s tough because you get those two’s in there and they deserve a chance. They practice their tail off all week and you want to get out there and run your offense and run your defense. At the same time you want to be respectful. They’ve (Siloam Springs) got a heck of program and they’re down a bit this year. Their coaches do a great job, so you have got to find that balance where you can run your offenses and keeping the score where it is.”

Next week the Bulldogs take on Van Buren on September 23rd at Smith-Robinson Stadium. It’s Homecoming Week, check with the Greenwood Schools Facebook pages to find the daily theme for Homecoming Spirit Week.
