The Arkansas Department of Youth Services has implemented changes at the Mansfield Juvenile Treatment Center to ensure the safety of staff and clients at the facility amid concerns over the Coronavirus.
DHS Chief of Communications and Community Engagement Amy Webb stated that “we are screening staff at every shift. We have restricted visiting. In its place we are increasing phone call time for families.”
Public schools statewide have faced closure, however, education services at the Mansfield facility remain unchanged as of last week.
The COVID-19 precautions place a further strain at the facility as current contractor Youth Opportunity Investments notified the state of their intent to cut ties as providers in Arkansas.
Webb added that “it is essential that we continue to provide treatment and services for the youth in our care, and we are grateful for the staff working with them and continuing to keep them safe.”
