Students of Mansfield School’s EAST Initiative recently took on a community service project, painting the city’s fire hydrants. EAST stands for Education Accelerated by Service and Technology. The group, led by teacher Annette Smith, has participated in several community projects and are looking to do more in the future.
The program works to transform schools and communities by “empowering people with technology, by encouraging critical thinking and creative problem-solving, and by engaging them in positive, real-world experiences. We advocate lifelong learning and community service. Through EAST, participants become positive agents of change to improve the world around them.”
The work they’ve done did not go unrecognized. Mansfield Mayor Mike Gipson was well-pleased with their job performance. Participating students were Brock Curry, Seth Fudge, Coby Hearron and Nathan Brewer.
