The Mansfield Lady Tigers competed against Booneville at home on Monday January 29th for their final home game of the season.
The Lady Tigers were down one of the team’s leading rebounder’s in Hailey Walker, so Coach Bryan challenged his girls to step up in her absence; and they delivered.
The Lady Tigers turned in one of their best performances of the season. Freshman Danielle Lillie and Mikayla Harrison both picked up their season first double-double to lead the team to victory against the Lady Bearcats. Danielle earned 13 points and 13 rebounds and Mikayla earned 11 points and 13 rebounds. Sadie Roberts earned 10 points and 7th grader Skylynn Harris earned 1 point in the game for their 35-28 win.
“The girls played to the expectation I have set for them this season”, said Coach Bryan. “Our team leaders stepped up today in scoring and rebounding and a couple earning their first double-double of their careers. I don’t suspect this will be the last time they have games like this one.”
Another outstanding performance was 8th grader Sadie Roberts; she also turned in a season high in scoring and led the team in steals. It was a good way to end our final home game this season.
The Lady Tigers went on the road to Charleston for their final game of the season on Thursday February 1st.
They struggled early in the game and could never overcome their first half issues. Mikayla Harrison shot well tonight making 13 points including going perfect three-for-three on 3-pointers.
“We were our own worst enemies today”, said Coach Bryan. “We turned the ball over 30 times resulting in some easy points for Charleston as we trailed 9-24 at halftime. After our halftime adjustments we stopped the bleeding but Charleston did well to hold us off from gaining any momentum to get us back in the ball game.”
The Lady Tigers will travel to Cedarville to compete against Greenland in the Junior High District Tournament Monday February 5th at 4:00pm. If they win, they’ll play Wednesday.
