Last week, there was a strong aroma in the air. That smell, was Friday Night Football!
What better way to start out the season than with the Battle of Scott County, also known as the Battle of Highway 71.
Kickoff began at 7:00pm with team pride on both sides of the field appropriately dressed in Red/White/Black, and Orange/Black or a combination of them all supporting family members, neighbors, friends, and our hometown team.
The Mansfield Tigers fell behind in the first half with the Waldron Bulldiogs going into halftime with a 21-6 lead. The second half was an all out battle where time may have been the best ally for the Bulldogs.
Orchestrating a comeback, the Tigers ended the 3rd quarter still behind the Bulldogs with a score of 35-14. This battle was a test for not only the coaches, but for the teams on both sides of the ball. But, the Tigers were not giving up, and closing the gap.
The 4th quarter seen plenty of heroic acts on both sides of ball, but time ultimately decided the end result with Waldron winning with a score of 35-28.
Mansfield Head Coach, Craig Bentley stated “Really proud of our guys and the fight they showed Friday night. We got behind early in he first quarter and coming out of half, but we never quit. We were able to fight back into it and give ourselves a chance to tie the ball game in the end. Sometimes you just run out of time. We fix the mistakes we made early defensively and get more consistent on offense and we have a chance to keep growing as the season goes on.”
We would like to wish the Mansfield Tigers, Coaches, Cheer Squads, Band, and families, a safe and successful season. GO TIGERS!
