Tuesday, December 13th, 2016 marked an important date for the Mansfield Police Dept, and the surrounding agencies. At 3:00pm, the once Mercy Clinic building located slightly south of the Mansfield City Hall, was dedicated to serve all law enforcement, and as the permanent site for the Mansfield Police department.
Mercy VP of Operations, Steve Gebhart stated, “This building constitutes our commitment to not only Mansfield Police, but the City of Mansfield, and the agencies that it will benefit. We’re currently working on creating a community health committee that will benefit everyone in this area as well.”
Mansfield Police had been headquartered on property east of town, but Mayor Glen Hurt, seen a bigger picture during his time as Mayor of Mansfield, and knew the P.D. needed to be more centrally located, and near downtown Mansfield. Today’s dedication was a culmination of his efforts, and foresight.
The newly renovated P.D. now offers each of the four officers their personal office, interrogation, and investigation rooms, as well as amenities that will aid in their jobs of serving our communities in a much broader, and efficient manner.
Chief Boyd Farmer stated, “We’ll be able to serve the community in a more public manner being inside downtown. We’re extremely proud of being here at this location.”
