Mansfield had home field advantage when it faced off against Lamar two games ago, but the team wasn’t able to capitalize. Heading out to play on the road didn’t bring a better result. Mansfield was within striking distance but couldn’t close the gap as it fell 18 – 12 to Cedarville. The score was tied up 0 – 0 at halftime, but Mansfield was the less effective team in the second half.
“Heartbreaking loss for our group last night. Way to many turnovers. It was a good game, both teams played extremely hard. Last night followed the pattern thats been hounding us all year….we dig ourselves a hole and shoot ourselves in the foot and it becomes too much for our young team to overcome …even though we will fight like crazy until the end.On the flip side we cannot buy a break with key injuries occurring weekly.Almost impossible to win a game with 6 turnovers. We finally got our running game going last night, which was nice to see happen. Defense stepped up and played good enough to win the game, we must continue to be in attack mode on that side of the ball. Offensively we must find a groove, with as many injuries as we have right now its difficult to find a rhythm. We will work hard this week to bounce back and move forward from here. We are very very young, in fact we got even more young this week and moving forward as we will be starting two 9th graders. We cant afford to play like we are young, we have to find our motor and make things happen, play above our age.” – Head Coach Bentley
The defeat dropped Mansfield’s record to 1-5. The loss is only the most recent in a discouraging three-game streak. The win bumped Cedarville’s record up to 2-4.
Mansfield will square off against Two Rivers this Friday at 7:00 PM.
