After Paris declared their track unsafe for running, Mansfield stepped up and held an impromptu practice meet for four area schools.
Normally, the Tigers would have headed over to Paris this time of year for a three night binge of track and field. PHS school officials came to the realization that their facilities were no longer up to standards to host meets. So, Mansfield went looking for places to play and they came up with a simple solution.
Mansfield sent their junior teams to Alma, senior teams to Gravette, and then decided to keep the local seventh graders close to home with a meet of their own.
To avoid a hit to an already small seventh grade schedule, it was Mansfield’s purpose to get their rookie runners at least some competition before spring break. Waldron, Mena, and Magazine were asked to the intimate four team affair and gladly accepted Wednesday, March 14th’s invitation.
Mansfield’s seventh grade boys excelled in certain areas. The small crew won both the 4x100m and 4x400m relays as well a pair of field events.
The combination of Tommy Phang, Gage Rogers, Logan Cravey, and Branson Carver gave the Tigers victory in both sprint relays. It was the team’s first win against two tries in the 4x100m event. It was the team’s second consecutive victory in the 4x400m relay.
Trenton Leroy did well in the pole vault for the second straight week. The first time competitor was the leading jumper just like he was at Booneville a week earlier.
Branson Carver was heads up in the men’s high jump. He repeated as a top jumper once again like he did at the Bearcat Relays in Booneville.
Madelen Jones saw victory in the women’s 100m hurdles. Teammate Megean Newman was fourth overall. Jones was also the top Tiger in the 300m style hurdles.
Newman, Jones, Natalie Allison, and Serenity Brunson also forged the Lady Tiger’s 4x100m relay. Lita Hecox, Jadelynn Wood, Olivia Bouse, and Jones made up the 4x400m team. This last relay event was a win for Mansfield.
Jones was the top high jumper for the night in the women’s competition. The first year player cleared 4’ 4” with solid technique giving her momentum to continue a proud tradition in Tiger vertical events.
Ashton Hinkle, Cravey, Phang, and Tyler Woolbright handled most of the jumping duties for the Mansfield men. Kendall Noblitt and Clinton Stovall also joined the jump party at the triple jump pit.
Braxton Byers, Codee Helms, and Levi Cothran were solid in the both the shot and discus. Byers also took a turn in the long jump pit.
Cassidy Carlton, Wood, Allison, and Bouse partnered in the 4x800m relay for the girls. Bouse was the group’s top time when comparing splits.
Trinity Woods, Chloe Jones, and Bethany Sartin all saw action respectively in the middle distance, sprint, and distance races for MMS.
Skylynn Harris dominated the shot and discus. She was joined by Alayna Swanger, Alayna Turner, and Seven Sanderson.
Rylie Puterbaugh and Gary Willis were involved in the 100m and 200m dashes respectively for their teams.
