The Paris Lady Eagles picked-up their 12th win of the season on Tuesday night with a 11-6 win over Waldron in the first round of the 3A-4 district softball tournament held at Cedarville High School. The win advances Paris to the quarterfinals to play the Danville Lady Little Johns for the right to advance to the district tournament semifinals. A win tonight by Paris would also guarantee the Lady Eagles a berth in next week’s regional tournament that will be held in Greenland.
Tuesday’s first round win was a big victory for Paris and put them in position to return to the regional tournament. Paris coach Donald Hart said after game, “It was good to get that first win of district under our belts to give us a chance to punch our ticket to the regionals.” It has been an up and down year for Paris softball this year, but the Lady Eagles are a dangerous opponent for any team they play in the post-season, and a hot Paris team could gather momentum that would not only carry them to the regionals, but to the state tournament to follow. The fate of the Lady Eagles’ season lies in the balance tonight at Cedarville, and I predict Paris will come out swinging for a chance to advance to the district semis and to next week’s regional tournament. There is a lot of talent and experience on this team, and they are certainly capable of making a run.
Tonight’s game at Cedarville is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m., but Eagles fans may want to arrive early. In tournament play, it is always possible that the game could start a little early.
