The Waldron Bulldogs had a very special night last night. Along with hosting the Charleston Tigers, they also honored the life of a Waldron graduate and wonderful teacher for 53 years in the Waldron School District. Eddie Harrison passed away on December 15, 2018, and the Bulldog community was asked to wear green for liver cancer awareness in his honor.
Both Sr High Bulldog teams had court issues and got knocked off by the Charleston Tigers. The Bulldogs lost 76-55 while the Lady Dogs had a loss of 52-24. Handling the ball well and keeping the Lady Bulldogs team under control was senior Sam Slater and junior Chelsea Stidman. Head Coach for the 1-4 Lady Bulldogs, Josh Atchley, said, “We have to do a better job of controlling the boards as well as playing the game at the speed we want. Our next game against Elkins will be another challenging opponent in our tough conference. We have made some strides towards our goals but still must continue to battle and Elkins on Friday night will be another test.”
The 4-1 Bulldogs were down 23 points in the 3rd quarter and got it to within 9 points with about 5 minutes to go in the game but just didn’t have enough in their tank to come out on top. Payton Brown scored 42 points and grabbed 6 rebounds while Gada Wagner had 6 points and 5 rebounds. Drew Dozier walked away with 6 points and 4 rebounds and the Bulldogs as a whole succeeded in 24 rebounds and 4 steals. Head Coach, Joshua Brown, says, “We have to come back and get better. Basketball is a game of runs and they just had more runs in them tonight. I’m proud of our guys for never giving up and fighting their way back to give themselves a chance in the fourth.”
The Bulldogs will head to Elkins with everyone healthy and injury free on Friday, January 11 at 6:30 pm.
