To finalize their last week before Christmas Break, the Mansfield Sr High Lady Tigers solidified two colossal conference wins on December 15th against the Future School and again on December 17th against Lavaca. The Sr Lady Tigers match versus the Lady Golden Arrows marked the fifth straight win for Mansfield upgrading their total play record to 8-3 and undefeated in conference play 4-0. The Sr Lady Tigers are currently parked first in a long line of cars on hoops highway.

Skylynn Harris

In their first matchup against the Lady Rockets, Mansfield earned a 51-19 win and although the Future School managed to get a few more points on the board in round two it just wasn’t enough to overthrow the Lady Tigers who grounded the Lady Rockets with a 64-31 loss. Leading the points parade for the Lady Tigers was Makayla Strutton with 24 and partner Danielle Lillie with 13. Together the Strutton/Lillie duo are able to drive down the lane faster and with more gritty stay power than Ricky Bobby and Cal Naughton Jr attempting a Talladega Nights “Shake’n’Bake”.

Hot on their heels with 9 and 8 points respectively were Skylynn Harris and Natalie Allison. These sophomore shooting supremacies are not only able to stack up buckets for their own team but they can also get in the faces of any opposing player who tries snag and bag a bucket for themselves as well. Sadie Roberts who scored 5 points, was able to offensively and defensively smother her opponents better than gravy on a biscuit. And combining for the remaining 5 points was Chloe Creekmore, Brooke Wright, and Seven Sanderson. The Lady Tigers also acquired 37 rebounds, 10 steals, and 4 blocks.

On Thursday, still flying high over their conference win against the Lady Rockets from Tuesday night, the Sr Lady Tigers were feeling invincible. And boy did it show. Mansfield hit Lavaca’s hardwood with a bulletproof personality and after securing a solid lead at the end of the first quarter 18-9, the Sr Lady Tigers refused to back down. Their intensity burned bigger and brighter until the Lady Golden Arrows melted with a final score of 59-25. Strutton led with 28 points followed by Harris with 8, Allison with 6, and Roberts and Lillie with 4 each.

Although Lavaca was shooting Arrows, Mansfield had their own old west weapon in “The Magnificent” Seven Sanderson. Sanderson swatted down the Arrows defensively and came up with three points in the game. Senior, Chloe Creekmore, was the Lady Tigers backboard beast all game. Creekmore scored a single bucket in the game, but her presence was felt more on the floor than on the nets. With rebounds, stuffs, and a SWAT team mentality against the Arrows offense, Creekmore made sure Lavacas offense was locked away for good. Serenity Brunson and Sarah Fisher rounded off the points with two each and contributed some solid floor time for the Lady Tigers. Lita Hecox was left scoreless in the game but instead of using the scoreboard, it was her redheaded never back down attitude in the faces of Lavaca that created bad passes and miscues to help solidify the Lady Tigers victory.

Up next, the Mansfield Lady Tigers will take on the Lady Hornets at Hackett on December 28th.
