It was a huge win for the Sr High Mansfield Tigers over the Lavaca Golden Arrows in Friday nights football match-up. With a 53-22 blowout, the Tigers played cat and mouse with Lavaca all evening long. The Mansfield offense and defense showed up to this game with one objective and that was to take charge and ensure that the Arrows never got the opportunity to take flight. Mission accomplished.
Quarterback, Ethan Stovall, ended the game with eight complete passes for Mansfield totaling 206 yards. Receiving for the Tigers was Clay James with 2 receptions for 74 yards and one touchdown. Layton Howard with 2 receptions for 44 yards and one touchdown. Jaicy Griffin with 2 receptions for 32 yards and one touchdown. And with one reception each totaling 13 and 43 yards respectively was Tyler Holmes and Auston Carlton. Holmes also secured a Tiger touchdown.
Helping to establish the Tigers 132 total rushing yards was Will Meadows, Isaac Cothran, Luke Ridenhour, Ethan Stovall, Zayne Dugan, Blayne Bryant, and Austin Carlton with Cothran, Ridenhour, and Carlton also bringing in one touchdown apiece. Randy Claude kicked the night away making 5/8 PAT and Layton Howard awed the crowd with his 79-yard kick-off return run for a touchdown.
The Mansfield Tigers will sit in a bye week but will be ready to roar on September 27 for their homecoming game against the West Fork Tigers. The game will start at 7 p.m.
