I recently had the privilege of attending a gun safety and training course at The Gun Cave Indoor Firing Range in Hot Springs, AR. It was truly a life changing experience, and I am so grateful to Jan Morgan and her husband Bob for having me.
I’ll be perfectly honest, I didn’t realize how naive I was until that day. I mean, I have had some close calls in my life. Once, I was approached late at night in the parking lot of my dorm room. Luckily a friend pulled up, and the situation changed quickly. The other, I was sitting at a stop light when gun shots rang out. Law enforcement were under fire with a convenience store robber. Lastly and most recently, someone came to our door in the early morning hours hollering “help.” Uneducated and naive, that door was opened, and I pushed my family inside and closed the door. I was standing on my front porch, alone with this bloodied beaten women. I learned later she was high on drugs. Subsequently, she was arrested and taken to jail.
I will say this, if it had not been for the grace of God in any of those situations, I could have been a victim of crime. It didn’t hit home until I took Morgan’s class. I listened to actual 9-1-1 calls of women being victimized.
I was glad the lights were off, as I was sobbing like a baby. I was shaking uncontrollably at their blood curdling cry for help. My husband, who had joined me to take photos and video portions of the course, could feel my reaction, and reached over and took my hand.
Two things I learned about myself. First, that I am
I now have a greater understanding of things I need to do both for myself and for my family. I highly recommend her course. Her training simulator, and facility is top notch. It is no wonder why people fly in from across the country and internationally to train at The Gun Cave.
Lastly, I wanted to add a special thanks to my good friend Gary Epperson who made all of this possible!
