In their previous meeting, Lincoln delivered Mansfield a punishing 51 – 24 defeat. Lincoln got the short end of the stick this time around, however. Lincoln was close but not close enough as they fell 39 – 36 to Mansfield.
Lincoln’s defense took a beating in the first half, giving up 27 points. That put them down 27 – 0. Even after 36 points in the second half, the team couldn’t make up the lost ground.
Mansfield found its leader in underclassman, Ethan Stovall who threw for 191 yards, which was enough to make him the team’s best player. Tyler Holmes was in the mix too, providing Mansfield with two touchdowns.
Mansfield’s win is its first of the season and lifts them to 1-2. The defeat dropped Lincoln’s record to 1-2.

Congratulations to #5 Ethan Stovall (overall), #70 Nathan Maness (offensive), #2 James Fry (defensive) and #20 Will Meadows (special teams) for being selected the Mansfield Football Players of the Game.
“”Big win on the road for us. We had an outstanding first half, but knew the rest of the game was going to be a dog fight. Offense really rebounded and played their most complete game of the year. Need to clean up some areas of our special teams. Defense had some big stops and turnovers and made plays when we needed to. We need to learn how to close out drives when we are defending on 3rd and 4th and long, that will be an emphasis going forward. Proud of the fight and grit we showed to close out the game and get a big victory on the road against a 4A football team. New season starts now, we want to build off this momentum going forward into conference.” – Head Coach Craig Bentley
Mansfield will battle it out at home against Paris this Friday at 7:00 PM, and will be the Tiger’s Homecoming.
