Best of Best Prep All-Stars Megan Rose and Rylea Weaver are excited to named to the Times Record list for their athletic successes this fall sports season. Rose was selected along with nine other cross country runners from the area while Weaver was among a handful of volleyball players.

Last year, news publication Times Record began a new series in which they recognized the “best of the best” prep stars across the River Valley and into Oklahoma. Selected exclusively through the observations and intellect of the Times’ sports writers and editors, this prestigious list covered ever sport from Golf to Track. In the spring of 2017, Mansfield had six athletes reach that inaugural list.

This school year with only a few sports having been completed, The Times’ people have already announced some of this year’s River Valley Prep Best of the Best All Stars. Included so far from Mansfield are Lady Tiger athletes Rylea Weaver and Megan Rose.

Weaver is a multi-sport star that has excelled in volleyball for two high school seasons. It is in this discipline that the 16 year old junior made the list. An outside hitter that stockpiled nearly ever Mansfield volleyball award a year ago, Weaver continued the trend this past volleyball campaign.

Rose, a two sport star and college recruit, earned her invitation by way of an ultra-successful cross country season. The 17 year old senior won several individual 5K races throughout the year including her fourth district title, and a River Valley All-Star title.

Both players will soon receive an invitation to a formal banquet to be held sometime in May. Hundreds of athletes, coaches, and notable sports figures from the high school, college, and professional level will be in attendance. Last year’s banquet included recently retired Dallas Cowboy Darren McFadden as the keynote speaker.

Weaver blushed as she reflected on the surprise announcement.

“I couldn’t believe it,” exclaimed Weaver. “It was crazy. I think my teammates contributed a lot to my success. I’m so happy and thankful.”

Rose was similarly surprised as she too heard news of the highly regarded honor.

“It’s such a good honor,” beamed Rose. “It’s a blessing to have the chance to go to such a big event. I’m very humbled by the recognition. It makes for another good achievement in my running career.”

So far only the names of high school prep stars that have participated in volleyball, cross country, and tennis this school year have been released. Other sports will come as their respective seasons end. Watch for an announcement around Christmas time for the football River Valley Best lineup.

CONGRATULATIONS, Ladies!
