The Waldron Sr High Bulldogs opened up December with a road win at Dover this past Tuesday night. The Bulldogs scored the first six points of the game with a hot start from behind the three-point line with back-to-back threes from Jaden Hutchens and transition threes from Isaac “The Real” Villarreal. But the Bulldogs would cool down in the first quarter and play five minutes without a field goal. Waldron led the Pirates 9-4 at the end of the first quarter.
By the time the second quarter came though the Bulldogs were warmed-up from inside and out. Bryson Bailey got things started with a layup followed by threes from Villarreal and Gada Wagner. However, it was not just the offensive production for the Bulldogs. Their defense limited Dover to 13 first-half points and the Bulldogs took a 30-13 advantage into the locker room.
In the second half of the game, the Bulldogs attacked the paint and scored their 28 points inside the three-point line. Waldron outscored Dover 18-10 in the 3rd quarter to take a 48-21 lead into the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs would add 10 more points to their total in the final quarter to bring home a 58-35 road win. Coach Joshua Brown stated, “Our guys gave a great effort from tip to finish, especially on the defensive end.” The Bulldogs finished the game with 36 deflections that led to 22 turnovers for the Pirates. The Bulldogs would turn those turnovers into 23 points.
Waldron had three players in double-figures, led by Jaden Hutchens with 15 points, Gada Wagner with 14, and Isaac Villarreal with 11. The Sr Bulldogs move to 4-1 on the season and will travel to Caddo Hills (9-0) on Thursday, December 3, 2020.
