Last Friday, April 12, the Mansfield Tigers squared up against the Cedarville Pirates in an away conference game. In this seven-inning showdown, the Tigers took captain of the Pirates ship and won the game 13-2. This lands Mansfield at 5-6 in total play and 4-4 in conference.
The Tigers earned all of their points in the first three innings of the game. Helping secure the 13 runs were Layton Howard with two, Tyler Watkins with two, Hunter Willsey with two, Zach Woolbright with two, Nathan Brewer with two, Isaac Cothran with one, Codi Chick with one, and Randall Claude with one.
The hit makers were Tyler with three and two runners batted in. Seth and Cody Fudge with two each. Nathan Brewer with two and two RBI. Hayden Henson with one and two RBI. Layton with one and one RBI. Codi with one and one RBI. And Clay James, Aaron Brewer, Isaac Cothran, and Hunter Willsey with one apiece. Ethan Pettus also earned one RBI.
The Tigers garnered three steals during the game. With one each was Clay, Randall, and Codi. Pitching for Mansfield was seniors Seth Fudge and Hunter Willsey. Seth threw out 105 pitches to 28 batters striking out 11. Hunter threw out 15 pitches to four batters striking out one.
Staying focused and defensively quick on their feet was Layton with two putouts. Seth with two assists. Tyler Watkins with two putouts and one assist. Hunter with two assists. Randall Claude with four putouts. Cody Fudge with eight putouts and two assists. And Isaac and Nathan with four and one putouts respectively.
Tonight is a big night for the Mansfield Tigers. Along with facing the 11-7 Lamar Warriors at 4:30 pm, the Tigers will be celebrating their seniors with a special on-field ceremony at 4:20 pm right before the game. Tonight will be at home so everyone is invited to come out and show their support.
