Hackett Hornets Head Football Coach, Lonnie Hester is a rare breed. One that sees the bigger picture, not just the end result. But for that image to fit the frame, it must be focused. And focus is not an issue.
Entering his 3rd year as the head Hornet, Hester knows as in life, and in football, it’s all about the preparation, and attitude. That focus is what he carried into the beginning of practice this year as he spoke to the (35) member Hackett Hornet team meeting as they began practice.
This years Hackett squad comes back after losing (12) Seniors, where (2) of whom were All State, and All Star picks. He has (6) returning on Offense, and (6) returning on Defense. These (12) will be the platforms strength in making another strong showing in this years schedule.
Hester commented, “We will have 7 Senior’s this year out of 35 players (so- we are pretty young). We just want to build off the great season we had last year (10-2, 2nd round of the playoffs). We lost to the 4th place team in the state & the state champions, we had 9 straight wins… It was a lot of fun.”
Hackett will be led by it’s size of their Senior starters this year. Matt Anderson – Center, Kody Hodge – Guard, Ely Stormes – Quaterback, Robert Collins -Tight End, and Andy McCoy – Linebacker.
Hester added, “We all have a lot of pride in our program at Hackett, and when you have the players, coaches and community on the same page, working together to be successful, it’s amazing to watch what transpires. We don’t take for granted where we’re at, where we’ve been, and what lies ahead.”Both the Hackett coaches, and players are doing their part to make Hackett proud. Good luck Hornets!
