Wednesday, December 4 at the 2019 Bev Stone Border Classic, it was pure edge of your seat excitement for the Hackett Sr High Lady Hornets. The 1-2 Lady Hornets took basketball to the next level with their match against the Cotter Lady Warriors. Both teams were definitely on top of their A-game and boy did it show. The Lady Hornets and the Lady Warriors were two evenly matched teams in it to win it.
With 16 seconds left in the game, Madi Taylor hit a three-pointer that gave Hackett a one-point lead at 58-57. Cotter answered back with their own score putting them at 59-58 with six seconds left on the clock. As the Lady Warriors were starting to prepare their victory dance, Rain Vaughn got a shot off at the buzzer to win the game 60-59. “We pushed the ball up and Rain made a great post move against their best player and finished the shot for the win,” exclaimed Head Coach, Broc Adams.
“It was a great win in the first round of the Border Classic! We shot the best we have to this point in the young season. Percentage-wise we played the best defense we have to this point in the year with the fewest turnovers in a game. We are improving every game and still have plenty to work on but when the effort, intensity, and work ethic are there a lot can be accomplished in a short amount of time.”
Kayla Richardson led the Lady Hornets with 23 points as well as five steals. Rain Vaughn earned 12 points and 11 rebounds. Faith Thomas netted 10 points, two steals, and four rebounds. Madi Taylor scored eight points and three steals. Shayla Foster snagged five points. And Madeline Freeman wrapped-up with three points and two steals. Thursday, December 5 in the Border Classic at 7:00 p.m. the Lady Hornets will go to battle with the Flippin Lady Bobcats. The 1-3 Hornets will take on New School at 5:30 p.m.
