MANSFIELD — Some people leave their hometown in search of bigger opportunities. Others take what they learn along the way and bring those opportunities back home. Mansfield High School alumnus Marcus Willsey is one of those individuals.
Known throughout the region for his passion for classic cars, drag racing and motorsports, Willsey has built a reputation as someone who not only loves the sport but works to create opportunities for others to enjoy it as well. A graduate of Mansfield High School, Willsey has never forgotten his roots in western Arkansas and continues to invest his time and energy into the communities that helped shape him.
For many racing enthusiasts, the thrill of horsepower and competition begins with a dream. For Willsey, that dream became a reality through years of dedication and hard work. Today, he is widely recognized as the owner and operator of Willsey’s Outlaw Dragstrip, a venue that has become a gathering place for racers and spectators from across Arkansas and neighboring states.
Those who know Willsey describe him as someone who has never lost his enthusiasm for automobiles. Whether restoring vintage vehicles, attending car shows or hosting racing events, he has dedicated countless hours to preserving automotive culture and creating family-friendly events for fellow enthusiasts.
His support extends beyond the drag strip. Willsey has also been an active supporter of community events in the Mansfield area. Organizations have recognized his willingness to help local causes, sponsor events and encourage tourism and economic activity through motorsports and car culture. Most recently, he was recognized for supporting the Mansfield MADE and SONIC Car Show, one of several community events designed to bring visitors and residents together.
While racing may be what many people know him for, those closest to him say his commitment to community is equally important. Through his business ventures and event partnerships, Willsey has helped create opportunities for local families to gather, businesses to benefit from increased traffic and young people to experience the excitement of motorsports in a positive environment.
For Mansfield residents, Willsey represents something familiar — the small-town graduate who found success while remaining connected to the place he calls home. His story serves as a reminder that community pride comes in many forms. Sometimes it is found on a football field, in a classroom or a city council meeting. Other times, it can be heard in the roar of an engine at a local drag strip.
No matter where life has taken him, Marcus Willsey remains a Mansfield Tiger at heart, carrying the values of hard work, perseverance and community service that have long defined the Mansfield area.
As Mansfield continues to celebrate the accomplishments of its graduates, Willsey’s story stands as an example of how hometown roots can fuel lifelong success.
