Hello everyone! It sure has been nice and hot this week. The grands and me went to Branson last Friday and Saturday, and let me tell ya, Saturday it was 71 degrees in Branson with a wonderful breeze blowing. I almost needed a jacket.
We had a great time, ate some great food, and enjoyed back-to-school and work clothes shopping. It’s always fun to go, but always glad to get home to my small town where there are no traffic jams and my comfy bed.
My husband loved to go to Branson and take the kids. We always stayed at the Grand Country Inn so the kids could go to the indoor water park. Our whole family went one time, and my sister Elaine was with us visiting from California. We are all a bunch of loud folks. We do not have inside voices.
We went to the Grand Country little mall, and they have an arcade and gift shop and stuff. They had this Love-O-Meter chair—you put a quarter in it, and it tells you your love personality. We all had to do it and laugh about what ours said.
My sister decided to do it, and it said she was cold. Well, honey, that upset her—like it’s real! I cannot tell you how many quarters she put in that machine, and every one of them said the same thing: that she was cold. We just laughed and laughed over it. She didn’t think it was funny, but we sure did.
A bunch of grown adults causing a scene over a Love-O-Meter chair. It was hilarious! I’ve told y’all, we have fun everywhere we go. She never got it to say anything different.
My husband was a lot of fun except when it came to driving. If we ever went on a trip, he would never want to stop and let us have a bathroom break. I would get so mad at him. That was one of his biggest downfalls.
The other downfall was all the wacky gifts and items he would buy on a whim and bring home. One time, I let him talk me into buying a Basset Hound for the kids. I finally broke down and agreed. The word “hound” means exactly that—it would bark and yelp all night long. It would just carry on and on.
We named him Bruno, and I learned to love him. Of course, I was the one taking care of him. Poor Bruno got run over not long after we got him, and it was very sad and hard on us.
I’m going to keep it short this week. I was long-winded last week.
Hug your loved ones tight and tell them you love them.
Icing in the Cake Strawberry Shortcake
Ingredients:
1 box strawberry cake mix
1 cup milk
3 eggs
1 stick butter, melted
1 can strawberry icing
1 (21-ounce) can strawberry pie filling
1 container Cool Whip
Fresh strawberries for decoration, optional
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Add the eggs, butter, cake mix, and milk to a bowl and mix well. Fold in the can of strawberry icing.
Spray a 9 x 13-inch baking dish with cooking spray and pour in the cake batter.
Bake at 350 degrees for approximately 45 minutes or until the cake is done. I would check it before 45 minutes—you don’t want to overcook it.
After the cake is completely cool, top with the can of strawberry pie filling. Spread thawed Cool Whip on top. You can slice fresh strawberries and put them on top for decoration.
Have a wonderful week!!
