Vampires may crave blood, but patients depend on it. This September and October, Our Blood Institute is inviting the community to celebrate spooky season by rolling up a sleeve. Inspired by everyone’s favorite creatures of the night, this fall’s donor promotion reminds everyone of one simple truth: all we need is blood.
Our Blood Institute will hold a blood drive with Booneville Community, on Monday, September 22, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the bloodmobile parked at Mercy Hospital.
All successful blood donors will receive a limited-edition All You Need Is Blood T-shirt while supplies last. The playful design features four mysterious, cape-clad figures crossing a street beneath a full moon, proving that when it comes to helping patients, giving blood never goes out of style.
The fang club knows the best surprises aren’t advertised. Be sure to unlock our secret menu and discover twice the T-shirt options available this season. Ask to see what’s hiding in the shadows and choose your favorite T-shirt from our expanded collection.
While spooky season is filled with ghosts, goblins and vampires, the need for blood is anything but make-believe. Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs a blood transfusion. Blood donors help ensure blood is available for patients battling cancer, recovering from traumatic injuries, undergoing surgery and facing countless other medical emergencies.
As summer comes to an end and busy fall schedules begin, blood donations often decline. School activities, football games, festivals and holiday preparations can make it easy to put off donating, even as the need for blood remains constant. A single blood donation can help save up to three lives, making every appointment an opportunity to make a lasting impact.
“Spooky season is all about having fun, and we wanted to create a campaign that makes people smile while reminding them how important blood donation really is,” said Dr. John Armitage, president and CEO of Our Blood Institute. “Blood can’t be manufactured, and hospital patients rely on volunteer donors every day. That’s why all we need is blood.”
Blood donation takes about an hour, but the impact can last a lifetime. Just one donation can help save up to three lives.
Anyone who is healthy and 16 years old* or older can give blood. Donation typically takes only about an hour, and one donation saves up to three lives. Appointments to donate can be made online at obi.org or by calling 877-340-8777. Walk-ins are also welcome.
