Hello everyone!! From the inside looking out it looks like a beautiful day, but when you walk outside it feels like my 350-degree oven. I’m not complaining simply because I am not a winter person.
Since Sunday was Grandparents Day, I’m going to say a few things about my grandparents. If you still have them with you, please spend as much time as you can with them. They are a treasure and a well of family history.
I loved to be around my Granny Morgan. She always had something to tell or say. She was very funny. My mom’s mom was not as funny, but she was such a good pie maker and cook. She also liked to dip a little snuff now and again. I had no idea until I was grown that she did that.
My grandfathers had passed away before I was born, but I had the best step-grandfather. We called him Papa Morgan. He was married to my Granny. He was a hoot, and my Granny would cook these big, huge meals. We would eat at her house, and Papa Morgan would always say, “I’m a tearing,” meaning he had ate too much.
My Granny made the best fried chicken. One of my memories of my Granny is after the kitchen was all cleaned up and the food put away, she always sat at the kitchen table and peeled and ate an apple. She really believed that an apple a day kept the doctor away.
She spoiled all her grands rotten, and we all loved to go to her house. Me and one of my friends, Mary, would go in the summer and stay a week or two with her, and we had sooo much fun. She let us do whatever we wanted, and to a kid that was wonderful.
She also taught me how to speak Pig Latin. You young whippersnappers don’t have a clue what that is.
Look it up.
Older people are so smart and have lived through so much it would be wise to listen to them. I am almost one of those old people now.
I used to take care of a lady in Lavaca, and let me tell ya, she was a hoot. She was a widow, and she knew I was a widow, and she was always giving me advice. One time she told me, “Honey, at this age all a man wants is a nurse and a purse, so stay single.” I sure do miss her and her well of information.
We are supposed to get a break in the weather this week. Y’all call or go visit your grandparents. Hug your loved ones and have a blessed week.
