Within a 5 day space, Mansfield High School collected two big trophies. One was the Class 2A State Championship trophy in volleyball. The other was the Class 2A State Runner-up trophy in women’s cross country.
Last Friday night at halftime of the Mansfield versus Hackett football game, those Lady Tiger teams presented Mansfield Superintendent Joe Staton and Principal Donnie Eveld with their respective accolades.
Public address announcer Travis Pettus recalled the highlights of the two different teams while introducing the team rosters to the attending audience. After each masked group was honored, the team captains of both squads presented the Tiger bosses with the heavy-duty hardware.
State MVP Brooke Wright carried the gold plated champion’s award for the Lady Tiger volleyball team. All-State long-distance runner Faith Rainwater toted the silver-plated runner-up statuette for the MHS cross country team.
Mansfield’s 2020 State Championship volleyball team took their title on October 31 in a 3-0 sweep of Lavaca in Hot Springs. Mansfield’s 2020 State Runner-up cross country team brought home their second-place reward edging out Melbourne at Oaklawn Park also in Hot Springs on November 5.
The championship roster for Mansfield’s state volleyball team includes the following by grade.
Freshmen: Alyson Edwards, Cole Smith, and Kynslee Ward.
Sophomores: Serenity Brunson, Cassidy Carlton, Chloe Jones, Seven Sanderson, Alayna Turner (All-Conference), Brooklyn Adams (All-District, All-State Tournament Team), Natalie Allison (All-District, All-State), Skylynn Harris (All-District, All-State Tournament Team), and Madelen Jones (All-District, All-State).
Juniors: Haylee Helms (All-District), Sadie Roberts (All-Conference), and Kiara Thomas (All-District).
Seniors: Chloe Creekmore, Amber Elmore, and Brooke Wright (All-District, All-State, All-State Tournament Team, and State MVP).
