McFadden Announces Sebastian Co. Sheriff Campaign

RANDY McFADDEN ANNOUNCES CANDIDACY FOR SEBASTIAN COUNTY SHERIFF

“A vote for McFadden is a vote for ALL people!”

Sebastian County Resident Randy McFadden announced his intent to run for Sebastian County Sheriff in the 2018 election. McFadden, a Republican, has 20 years of law enforcement experience, having served on the Springdale Police Department and as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff for both the Sebastian and Washington County Sheriff’s Department.
Randy also served in management security for United Parcel Service for 12 years and served a total of 28 years with United Parcel Service. Randy and his wife, Sherrell, live in Mansfield and are members of Shady Grove Free Will Baptist Church. He graduated from Southside High School in Fort Smith in 1977 and obtain a Bachelor of Science Degree in Organizational Management from John Brown University in 2005.
“I intend to be proactive as Sheriff and to utilize a community policing approach,” said McFadden. “By enlisting the assistance of the community, I believe that we can cut down on crime and save taxpayer dollars.”
McFadden intends to be a proactive, rather than reactive, Sheriff. “For example, I intend to be very proactive in combating the war on unlawful use or possession of opioids, as well as training all deputies in the use of the life-saving drug Narcan.” McFadden intends to take three well-defined steps in the war on illegal drugs. First, arrange meetings with other law enforcement agencies, particularly the Federal agencies already versed in the opioid crisis. Second, have regular meetings with emergency responders and training sessions as needed to make sure that the most current information available from state and federal law enforcement agencies is taught to all deputies. Third, ensure all front-line deputies are equipped with all equipment needed when responding to emergency calls or when otherwise placed in a dangerous situation. McFadden also said that “I intend to run a department known for its integrity and transparency.”
McFadden, also believes this county should be a safe place to live and work with the help of each team member and the community. “I believe in order to promote a safe county you must have a team that has the same goals, concerns, and regard for everyone who lives and works in Sebastian County,” said McFadden. “Employees will be trained to successfully protect and serve each individual without discrimination. They will have specialized training in each field whether it be on the front line, at the detention center, in the court house, and or simply the office staff. Each and every employee will have up to date and accurate training to ensure success in their field and therefore, a successful and safe county,” said McFadden.
McFadden will know each employee that works for Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office and has the ability to ensure that that the county and the employees will not be in danger due to lack of training, lack of equipment or lack of leadership. Each new employee will go through the appropriate testing, background checks and have accurate training before entering the field to ensure their safety and the safety of the people who live and work in this County.
McFadden believes that his faith as a Christian Conservative is consistent with the being able to serve the department, treat all staff equally, and treat all citizens fairly. He believes that his own values will help in preventing turnover in the jail which costs the County thousands of dollars due to the cost of training new personnel.
McFadden’s father also served in law enforcement. He retired from the Fort Smith Police Department and subsequently served with the Sebastian County Sheriff’s Department.

Mansfield Mayor’s Attorney Files Lawsuit Against City of Mansfield

Fort Smith attorney, Joey McCutcheon has filed a lawsuit against the City of Mansfield on behalf of Mansfield Mayor, Larry Austin.
The lawsuit itself comes against three City of Mansfield Council Members with regards to an alleged communication via text messages, to conduct a “special meeting” discussing actions against the Mayor without proper notice, and attendance. This action was followed by an Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) to receive the text messages.
Mansfield Mayor, Larry Austin is listed in the lawsuit as the plaintiff, with City Council members Rick McDaniel, Sheri Hopkins, and Beverly Lyons as the defendants.
The lawsuit asks the Court to state and declare that the text messages constitute an unlawful meeting, and instructs the City of Mansfield from holding further meetings without giving timely notice. Arkansas law states that prior notice has to be given for board of directors to hold meetings that discuss public business.
The next regular scheduled meeting of the Mansfield City Council will be held tomorrow night at Mansfield City Hall, at 7:00pm.

MJH Lady Tigers Rebounding after Christmas Break

The lady tigers traveled to Booneville last Thursday to take on the lady Bearcats. The lady tigers played well below the expectations of Coach Bryan. “The girls did not play their best today and fell short on the scoreboard. My expectations were not met as a team today although we did have a couple players play well” stated Coach Bryan.
Mikayla Harrison and Danielle Lillie accounted for 17 of the teams 18 points. Player of the game goes to Mikayla Harrison where she had a season high 12 points in the game including 3 3-pointers. Danielle Lillie played very good defense in the game and accounted for multiple tipped passes that resulted in turnovers for Booneville.
After a long break over Christmas, the girls looked a little sluggish and seemed tired during their game. “We will work hard to be back on track for our upcoming games against Cedarville, Ozark, and Waldron” added Coach Bryan.
Yesterday, the Lady Tigers of Mansfield took on the Lady Tigers of Charleston at home. After the first quarter our lady tigers were down 8-1. Over the next 3 quarters the Lady Tigers battled and kept the game within 2 points until one of Charleston’s players hit a clutch 3-pointer to keep the Charleston lady tigers at a 2 score lead.  The Mansfield Lady Tigers outscored the Charleston lady tigers 22-20 after the first quarter.
“If we could have hit a couple of missed opportunities early in the game, I feel the results would have been in our favor” stated Coach Bryan. “Our girls played well today but we still haven’t managed to get over our hump of missing open players and making our open baskets count. We did have another player step up today in a big way on offense. Amber Elmore posted up very well in the game and came out with 10 points in the game; 8 of which came off free throws where she shot at a season high 80% for the game. We had many players step up today including two 7th graders, Olivia Bouse and Skylynn Harris, which saw some minutes in the game. Other stats, Mikayla Harrison had 9 points, Danielle Lillie with 3 points. Danielle Lillie, Haylee Helms, Mikayla Harrison, Olivia Bouse and Sadie Roberts all had multiple steals or tipped passes in the game. Hailey Walker, Amber Elmore, Sadie Roberts and Skylynn Harris accounted for over 25 rebounds as a group.”
The Lady Tigers play at home on Thursday against the Cedarville Pirates. These teams competed against each other very early in the season and the Lady Tigers were not prepared for that game. Tomorrow with more game time under their belt, the Lady Tigers expect to rectify that loss.
Come out and support your Lady Tigers tomorrow night at 6:00 PM at Mansfield High School.
GO TIGERS!
