Mansfield School District has officially hired Dustin Payne, from Alma as their new assistant football coach. Dustin will coach Linebackers, receivers and be the Junior High defensive coordinator. He will also be assigned a 2nd sport to assist in as well as teach secondary social studies at the High School.
Coach Payne graduated from Alma High School. He then attended UAFS and began working on his degree while volunteering at Alma High School. He graduated in May 2016 with a Bachelor’s in History with Teacher licensure and began work as the Student Detention supervisor and varsity defensive tackle coach.
He is engaged to be married to his fiance, Emilie Cartmill.
“We are excited to have welcome Coach Payne to our staff. For the longest time, Mansfield has had 3 football coaches for grades 7-12 and with this addition it brings us to 4, helping us close the gap between us and all of our opponents. We want to thank the school board and administration in taking this step to continue to improve our program. Coach Payne stood out among all of the other candidates as the one with the most passion and fire of wanting to join our program and school. The well respected coaches at Alma just raved about his work ethic, relationship with kids and knowledge of the game. Another important factor in hiring Coach Payne was the fact that he will do a great job in the classroom and whatever coaching assignment he is given. His passion for those things were clear in his interview. He will be a huge asset to our community, school and whole athletic program” stated Head Tiger Football Coach, Craig Bentley.
Welcome to The Jungle, Dustin! GO TIGERS!
