Over the weekend on Saturday, September 14, the Sr High Lady Hornets took to Harrison, Ar to show off their winning volleyball skills in the annual Slamfest Tournament. The Lady Hornets walked in with an overall record of 8-2-1 but by the end of the day, that record had upgraded to 11-2-1. Hackett was scheduled to take on Yellville-Summit, Mansfield, and Piggott and in all three matches, the Lady Hornets took the win 2-0.
With scores of 25-4 and 25-10 against Yellville-Summit, the Lady Panthers didn’t even get the chance to warm up. Racking up a total of 16 kills, Kenadi Wright and Rain Vaughn led their team with 4 each while Madeline Freeman trailed with 3. Shayla Foster earned 6 of the Lady Hornets 15 aces. Jamye Durham brought in 3 blocks. And leading with a total of 7 and 4 digs respectively were Kayla Richardson and Kandace Byrd.
Hackett took to the net next against the Mansfield Lady Tigers. Earning wins of 25-9 and 25-11, the Lady Hornets were no strangers to the powerhouse game that the Lady Tigers would bring to the table. Freeman ended the sets with a total of 5 aces and 3 kills. Richardson dug deep to find her over the top volleyball skills earning 10 digs. Byrd pulled in 4 aces and 5 digs. Vaughn achieved 7 up close and personal kills. And Foster shoveled in 4 digs.
In the final face-off of the day against the Piggott Lady Mohawks, the Lady Hornets had to reach deep down to find every little piece of defensive and offensive skills that they possessed to grab their last two set wins. Although nerve-wracking, Hackett came through and sealed the deal with wins of 25-23 and 25-20. Brooke Holt and Kadence Glass brought in 2 aces apiece of the total 8 aces obtained. 22 kills were earned with Freeman securing 7 of those. Richardson led with 15 digs. And Kenadi Wright brought in 2 blocks.
The Lady Hornets get no time to rest as they will shoot for more net results when they travel to Waldron on September 16 to face the always well-coached tough-as-nails Lady Bulldogs who are sitting 4-1 in conference play. The game will have a start time of 4 p.m.
