The time has come. I can already smell the popcorn and hear the excitement from the stands. The blanket of red on the MHS practice field can only mean one thing. Football season is near!!! May 13 kicked off the beginning of football practice for the Sr High players. With a week under their belt, I checked in with Head Coach Craig Bentley about his thoughts on how practice is panning out.
“We have to really establish our offensive and defensive lines. That’s the main area of focus now. There is a lot of potential there, we just need some guys to really step up and take ownership in those roles. As of right now, we hold 27 players on the roster.”
“This summer, we want to make sure we iron out any wrinkles on both sides of the ball, improve strength and conditioning, stay healthy, and continue to develop as individual football players. We will also be looking forward to our Mom and Dad’s nights and our team trips this summer.”
The Mansfield Tigers will be losing Coach Dustin Payne as he takes his coaching career on a different path. “We hope to have Coach Payne’s replacement in place by next week. Coach Payne did a great job for us. He was a great relationship builder with our players and he will be missed. We wish him the best of luck at Alma.”
