The Mansfield Tigers Chess Team went to compete at the local Greenwood Bulldog chess tournament on Wednesday November 6th. The Tigers shown some fight as they competed against other area schools like Alma, Van Buren, Greenwood, Mountainburg, Cossatot River, Ozark, and Booneville.
Seventh grader Tobias Towe won first place in the junior high division, seventh grader Elijah Garner won third place in the junior high division and Ethan Pettus won third place in the senior high division.
Records for the junior high division were Tobias Towe 5-0, Elijah Garner 3.5-1, Peyton Martin 3-2, Cameron Pettus 3-2.
Records for the senior high division were Ethan Pettus 4-1, Zayne Dugan 3.5-1, Enny Vouthy 2-3, and Ethan Streets 2-3.
The overall tournament awarded the top three teams with a trophy. The top five players scores from each school district were combined to see which three schools performed the best. The Mansfield Tiger Chess Team placed 2nd overall as a district.
Coach Joshua Bryan was very proud of his teams performance. “The team performed well today. They played well and were dominated throughout the whole competition.”
