Waldron Mayor Excited about Future

Waldron Mayor David Millard took office one month ago, and is settling in well. He admits the first few days were somewhat overwhelming, but is very excited about the future of the city.

One of his first orders of business was to meet with each department head. He laid out his expectations of them, and in turn asked what they expected of him. “I set up weekly meetings with them. Every Monday they can come in, vent and tell me about any problems and I am glad to listen.” He added that he always welcomes them to come in and visit one on one if needed. “I always have an open door.”

His expectations are, if something needs to be done, that it gets done. “I understand things come up, and if it cant be done right that minute, I expect that it will be done as soon as possible…I feel like I am pretty easy to work for.”

Following the meeting with department heads, Millard met with all the city employees and again spoke about what he expected of them.

The leadership role isn’t new for Millard as he served many years as Police Chief. He’s well versed in delegating jobs and depending on department leaders. “I won’t be calling people to do disciplining, I expect the department heads to do their job and I will stand behind them.”

Millard has had a positive start, and good input from the city. He came into office at an ideal time with staff and employees. He is adamant about showing appreciation to those employees, too. “I tell my people often I appreciate them, some of them get a hug and an I love you.”

Millard begins each day at city hall with prayer. He prays for the city and its prosperity. “My heart is with Waldron,” Millard concluded.
