Jessica Williams will not be back in court until after the first of the new year. This comes as her attorney, Ernie Witt, petitions the court for a “fitness to proceed examination,” alleging that Williams is not fit to stand trial.
Judge Jerry Don Ramey ordered the criminal responsibility examination of the defendant on November 15. Witt contends that at the time of Williams’ arrest “witnesses and law enforcement noticed mental issues.” Also that the defendant had been committed to a mental facility at least once since her incarceration on this offense.
All further proceedings in the case have been suspended until Williams undergoes the mental evaluation. As a result, the pre-trial date has been moved to January 7, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. The jury trial is set to begin January 15, 2019 at 9:30.
