25th Annual United Way Day of Caring

By Tammy Moore Teague
The city of Mansfield participated in the United Way’s 25th annual Day of Caring on April 26. Volunteers gathered at the City Lake Park at East Broadway and began working shortly after 8:30 that morning. Some of the work included picking up trash, limbs, and clearing covered areas. Additionally, painting and touching paint on the park’s facilities.
Day of Caring promotes volunteerism and partnered with groups within six counties including Crawford, Franklin, LeFlore, Logan, Sebastian and Sequoyah. The projects are focused on relationships with local children, families and seniors. The team in Mansfield joined 1200 other volunteers taking on 116 projects across those counties. The volunteers, including the Mansfield FFA and the juvenile facility, partnered with local business Arcbest. “It’s our biggest to date,” said Mitzy Little, marketing director at United Way.
The success this year further exemplifies the motto of the United Way, “Great things happen when you live United.”
