The 7th Grade Mansfield Tigers continue to get better every day. They have come a long way since the beginning of the season and they only look to get better. The Lady Tigers dismantled the Charleston Tigers on their own home court and walked away victorious 23-19. The Mansfield Tigers boys’ team ended their game short of a win 35-24.

“The goal of the game was to see who works best in particular positions on the floor against a good Charleston team,” said Lady Tigers Coach Joshua Bryan. “Many girls received a lot of playing experience at multiple positions on offense and defense and I feel we can be a little more versatile going into our games this January.” The Lady Tigers handled Charleston’s pressure well and came out on top. Kaile Sysakayavong ended the game with a season-high 8 steals and secured 9 points. Harlie Fuller brought in 8 points for her team and Alyson Edwards and Kynslee Ward made 3 points each.

For a team with some inexperience, the Tigers showed a lot of heart after getting down early. “At one point we got within 8 in the second half,” said Head Coach Keith Dake. Leading the charge was point guard Tyler Turnipseed who finished the game with 24 points “One thing we have to focus on is securing rebounds and doing a better job of blocking out,” explains Coach Dake. “Charleston was able to score 21 points off of second-chance looks alone.”

Catch the 7th Grade Tigers as they compete in their Jamboree on Saturday, January 12. The boys will play in Cedarville starting at 9 am and the girls will play at home at 9 am as well.
