Greenwood High School student Bryce Culver, 16, has been chosen to serve on Senator John Boozman’s Congressional Youth Cabinet. Culver is a junior at Greenwood High School.

Culver, the son of Jason and Heather Cumnock of Greenwood, was selected to serve in the program throughout the 2021-2022 school year.

Senator John Boozman’s Congressional Youth Cabinet provides selected high school students in Arkansas with an opportunity to influence the policymaking process and better understand how Congress works. According to the congressman’s website, the goal of this program is to foster a lifetime commitment to civic engagement and public service. Senator Boozman feels very strongly that we should all be “givers” in our towns and cities where we live. This Congressional Youth Cabinet is a nonpartisan initiative that will expose students to the importance of the legislative process and ways that citizens can get involved. Members of the cabinet will also have the opportunity to provide Senator Boozman with their own ideas about solving current issues facing young Americans. Youth cabinet members will serve a one-year term which begins in May. Their term will be served with other selected students within their Congressional District. There will be two meetings during the board term that will take place in the fall and spring at a local college campus. In addition to the physical meetings, there will also be one Congressional Youth Cabinet tele-town hall meeting with the Senator.

Senator John Boozman’s Congressional Youth Cabinet was implemented during the 2017-2018 academic school year. The program was highly successful, with 44 students selected to serve throughout the inaugural year.

This program is open to Arkansas high school students. In order to qualify to serve on the Congressional Youth Cabinet students must:

  • Be a high school junior for the upcoming school year in Arkansas;
  • Currently hold at least a GPA of 2.0;
  • Possess a strong commitment to personal growth and continued success within their community; and
  • Have a reliable attendance history in school.

In a congratulatory letter to Culver, Boozman stated: “I am excited about this program and look forward to working with you. You will join other students selected from your Congressional District as a team for this program. I look forward to hearing your ideas and insight on the issues impacting our nation. One of the most rewarding parts of serving in the U.S. Senate is working with Arkansans so that I truly understand the issues that are important to you. I appreciate your willingness to serve and help represent your peers and your community in this endeavor…”
