Lady Hornets Ridin’ High In That Softball Sky

Pictured #2 Audrie Chaney

The Hackett Lady Hornets have done it again. Another complete strikeout of the competition. Hackett hosted the Hector Lady Wildcats to the first conference game of the season. The Lady Hornets wouldn’t even let the Lady Wildcats come off home plate as they ended their game with a dominating 10-0 Hackett shutout.

#5 Kayla Richardson

Concluding the game in six innings, the girls were quick to lay down the law. Staying fast on their feet were Kayla Richardson, Madeline Freeman, Madi Taylor who also stole two bases, and Sarah White with two runs each. And with one run apiece was Audrie Chaney and Shayla Foster. Autum Neal earned herself one hit and two steals.

Cracking bats with four and three hits were Sarah White and Madeline Freeman. Coming in with a combined five hits for the Lady Hornets were Kayla, Shayla, and Jamye Durham. Never knowing where she would pop up next with her faster than Flash moves was Audrie Chaney with eight putouts. Sarah White brought in seven and combining for three putouts were Kayla, Madeline, and Emma Infalt.

Lady Bulldogs No Go Win Against Alma

Pictured #00 Mackinzie Callahan

The Waldron Lady Bulldogs went into last nights game against the Alma Lady Airedales hoping for a new ending outcome. The Lady Bulldogs have fallen short the last few years they have faced Alma and unfortunately, last night was no different. Waldron still battled with the same ferocity that they bring to every game but in the end, the Lady Airedales just weren’t letting up.

The Lady Bulldogs held Alma to four straight innings of zero runs. Waldron slid into home plate in the third inning securing one run. Alma must have just needed to warm up because out of nowhere by the fifth and sixth inning, the Lady Airedales knocked out seven runs. With Waldron unable to catch up, the game ended 7-2 Alma.

Senior Mackinzie Callahan put up two hits, one run, and one stolen base for Waldron. Snagging the second run for the Lady Bulldogs was Kelsey Yother also stealing a base. Bayleigh Lipham led her team in the fielding division with eight putouts while Ashtyn Moore, Whitney Richmond, and Mackinzie each contributed two.

Saige Mahar and Rheagan Sanford were team players coming in with five and three assists respectively. Sophomore pitcher Ashton Young threw a great game with 118 pitches to 32 batters striking out two of them. The Waldron Lady Bulldogs will head into tonight’s game with an 8-4 total play record.

Staying home for this evenings conference game against rivals the 4-8 Mansfield Lady Tigers, the Lady Bulldogs are showing no signs of letting anyone come into their home and beat them. Waldrons last two home games ended with the Lady Bulldogs winning with a combined score total of 25-5. The game will start at 4:30 p.m.

BethAnn May was brilliant in the pitcher’s circle on Thursday, as she threw a no-hitter to lead the Lavaca Lady Arrows past Westside 15-0. May threw a no hit shutout over five innings, striking out 11 and walking one against the Lady Rebels.

The Lady Arrows secured the victory thanks to ten runs in the fourth inning. Lindsey Morgan, Morgan Taylor, Brianna Winchester, Jessica Flanagan, Brooklynn O’Kelley, and Tessa Leonard all drove in runs in the frame. The Arrows scored 3 more runs in the 5th. 2 of those runs came off of a Sierra Lamb in the park home run. Lavaca collected ten hits on the day. Winchester and Lamb lead the team at the plate. Winchester had three hits in three at bats and Lamb had another 2 on 4 plate appearances.

The Lady Arrows are going to be very tough to beat this year. With their strength of pitching and strong hitting the Lady Arrows look to carve up the conference. Next up for the Lady Arrows will be a April first match up with Magazine. Game will be in Lavaca at 4:30.

The Lavaca Golden Arrow baseball team traveled to JC Westside today after a tough loss yesterday to the Lamar Warriors. For the Arrows this game was an opportunity to get back on track to start conference play. Getting back on track is exactly what the did. The Arrows have struggled at the plate the past couple of games but today the Arrows hit the ball hard and created scoring opportunities every inning. The Arrows posted 11 runs on 8 hits. Westside also committed 5 errors in the game allowing the Arrows to capitalize. Jimmy Hall and Trey Castor each racked up multiple hits for Lavaca. Hall went 3-for-4 and Castor went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Lavaca. The Arrows got things started on the second pitch of the game when Jayger Wagner singled. This was the start of a four run inning.

Defensively, Jimmy Hall had all the right stuff on Thursday for Lavaca. Hall gave up only 4 hits in a complete game shutout, striking out 11. The Arrow defense was sure- handed behind their pitcher. They committed no errors in the game.

With strong pitching and hitting, the Arrows are definitely ready to make some noise in conference play as they look to defend their conference championship. Next up for the Arrows, will be Monday April 1st at home. They will be looking to play April fools on the Rattlers of Magazine.
