Lady Arrows Start tournament with 2nd straight shutout.

BethAnn May didn’t allow a single run against McClellan, throwing her second consecutive complete game shutout and leading Lavaca Lady Arrows to a 11-0 victory on Friday. She surrendered zero runs on two hits over four innings, striking out ten and walking zero.

The Lavaca Lady Arrows got their offense started in the first inning. Scoring five runs in the inning. In the first game the lady Arrows hit two home runs.. Tessa Leonard had an in the park home run in the first inning. Brianna Winchester added another In the park home run, in the third inning. Lavaca tallied eight hits. Jessica Flanagan, Brianna Winchester, and Sierra Lamb all managed multiple hits for Lavaca with 2 each. Lamb, Winchester, and Flanagan each collected two hits to lead Lavaca. The Lady Arrows tore up the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases.

Next up is the Charleston Lady Tigers at 6:30 at the Clarksville High School field.

Creel Outdoors Announces Crappie Contest

Creel Outdoors Bait & Tackle of Lavaca is celebrating their fifth anniversary of being in business with a “Crappie Contest”. The contest is open March 1 through March 31, 2019. Fishermen are encouraged to bring their largest catch to be weighed and photographed at Creel Outdoors, 4330 E. Hwy. 96 Lavaca, Ark.

Photos of entries will be announced on the store Facebook page, www.Facebook.com/Creel.Outdoors/. The winning entry will also be announced on April 1 and the winning fisherman will receive a Mr. Crappie combo rod and reel.

Store hours are: Monday 7a-5p, Tuesday-Closed, Wednesday 7a-6p, Thursday 7a-6p, Friday 6a-6p, Saturday 6a-9p. through Sunday, 1p-6p. During the summer, the store is open until 9pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Store owners Jackie and Holly Creel started the contest in 2014, the same month they opened their bait and tackle store east of Lavaca. Holly says, “We wanted to do something every year to celebrate the opening of our business. This year is very special to us because it’s our fifth anniversary.” She says the contest brings out a lot of customers and creates excitement among local fisherman each spring.

VISITORS AT THE MILITARY ROAD MUSEUM

On Thursday, March 7, a group called the Welcome Neighbor Club of Greater Fort Smith made a visit to the Military Road Museum of Lavaca. According to their Facebook page, their group is “a non-profit group of ladies who enjoy having a good time. Bowling, book club, bunco, brunches, golf, and just plain friendships!!! And an annual Christmas charity auction to feel good about ourselves!” And what a group of ladies they are!

The leader of the pack, if there is one, called to make arrangements to make sure we would be open. But they also made a lunch date at Steffey’s Pizza, so one would wonder if they came for the pizza or to see the museum at all! The twelve ladies that came were fascinated by our local history and contributions to the area. The women had plenty of questions and reminisced about their younger days as they were reminded by artifacts in the displays. Several of the ladies found an old songbook in our collection and had no problem joining together singing a song to the rest of us. They sang beautifully too!

Your group is welcome to visit the Military Road Museum in downtown Lavaca also. Give Jack a call at 479-739-2482 to make arrangements! It was a great pleasure to visit with the ladies of this group. I imagine they have fun where ever they meet!

Lady Tigers Headed To Clarksville Tourney

The Mansfield Lady Tigers took a road trip to Paris last night to challenge the Lady Eagles to a softball game. Although weather conditions weren’t the worst players and fans have seen, warmer temperatures will be welcomed.

The Lady Eagles didn’t hesitate to start swinging as they quickly put up four runs in the first inning. Mansfield added a run to the scoreboard in the second inning along with the Lady Eagles bringing the tally to 5-1 Paris. After all was said and done, the Mansfield Lady Tigers ended the game with a final score of 6-3 Paris.

Running with a purpose with one run each was Kylie Eveld, Hailey Walker, and Shyann McDowell. Pummeling the softball at two hits each was Kylie Eveld and Maggie Strunk. And with one hit apiece was Caroline Nicodemus with two runners batted in and Amber Elmore with one runner batted in.

The Lady Tigers were raining steals as Kylie Eveld, Hailey Walker, and Abby Morgan combined for a total of six. And pitcher Caroline Nicodemus had a good night with 86 pitches while facing 29 batters, six of which were struck out.

The Clarksville Softball Tournament is up next for the Mansfield Lady Tigers as they head Northeast to first take on the Dover Lady Pirates Friday, March 8 at 5 p.m.

Governor Asa Hutchinson has declared the week of March 10-16 as Girl Scout Week in Arkansas.

In his proclamation, Hutchinson said Girl Scouts inspire G.I.R.L. – Go-getter Innovator, Risk-taker and Leader – in every girl, preparing her for a lifetime of leadership.

The Girl Scout program, which began in 1912, is a one-of-a-kind leadership development program for girls, with proven results. It is based on time-tested methods and research-backed programming that help girls take the lead—in their own lives and in the world.

Today more that 50 million women are Girl Scout Alums and 2.6 million girls and adults are current members. Girl Scouts welcomes girls of all backgrounds and interests who want to develop the courage, confidence and character to make the world a better place.

We appreciate all those women who have stepped up into leadership roles to continue the Girl Scouts program!

Bulldogs Are Warmed-Up And Ready For The Wolves

It was a non-conference rivalry baseball game last night against the Waldron Bulldogs and the Booneville Bearcats. With the Bulldogs in Bearcat territory, Waldron swung fierce and ran hard but in the end fell short 12-2.

In Thursday’s game against the Bearcats, Tyler Owens pitched four innings to 18 batters striking out eight. He also threw out 96 pitches. Clayton Montgomery and Caden Fuller pitched one inning each to a combined 9 batters with Caden striking out one.

Drake Carnley and Caden Fuller earned one run each and with a total of four hits was Drake Carnley, Payton Brown, Braden Williams with one batted in, and Seth Hunt with one batted in.

Waldron might not have won in last nights game but rest assured that the Bulldogs are done playing nice and ready to lay down the law. Tonight is the start of conference play and tonight is when it starts to count.

With the Waldron Bulldogs sitting at 0-3 in total season play and the Lincoln Wolves 0-2, tonight could be anybody’s game. Waldron fixed some things that needed to be fixed and are ready to travel to Lincoln and steal the “W” from the Wolves. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.

The (1-1) Mansfield Tigers traveled to Subiaco last night to face off with the (0-4) Trojans in an all-out Tiger take-over baseball game. Hitting hard right off the bat, little time was wasted getting the game started.

By the end of the first inning, it was a 2-2 tied ball game. But that was all she wrote for the Trojans. Subiaco failed to put any more points on the board leaving Mansfield to run the show. Ending in the bottom of the fifth, the Tigers walked away with an 11-2 victory.

Like a hammer to a nail, the Tigers were on target with their hitting. Connecting bat to ball with two apiece were Tyler Watkins, Cody Fudge, and Nathan Brewer. And earning one hit each was Seth Fudge and Hayden Henson.

Running faster than a camel to water in the desert was Tyler Watkins with three, Hunter Willsey with three, Nathan Brewer with two, and Layton Howard, Randall Claude, and Isaac Cothran with one each.

When it comes to stealing bases, you most definetly dont want to take your eye off of these Tigers. Stealing more bases than a pickpocketer does wallets, with a combined total of seven, was Layton Howard, Tyler Watkins, Hunter Willsey, Randall Claude, Nathan Brewer, and Zach Woolbright.

With their second game in two days, the Mansfield Tigers will stay home tonight as they face the Greenland Pirates in their first conference game of the season. Start time is at 4:30 p.m.

In last nights softball match, the Hackett Lady Hornets kept total control of their game against Danville, completely shutting out the Lady Little Johns with a 9-0 final score.

By the top of the fifth inning, the Lady Hornets had dominated the board thus upgrading their total play record to 2-1. Delivering more strikes than a book of matches was Lady Hornets pitcher, Kayla Richardson with nine batters being struck out. She garnered 79 pitches in five innings and faced 19 batters.

Running faster than a Quarter Horse was Lady Hornets Audrie Chaney, Kayla Richardson, and Shayla Foster with two runs each. And bringing in one run a piece was Rachel Widmer, Madeline Freeman, and Sarah White.

Batting out the hits with two each was Sarah White and Shayla Foster. And adding to the nights tally with one hit each was Audrie Chaney, Kayla Richardson, Madeline Freeman, and Madi Taylor. Stealing bases like they were going out of style with a combined total of 6 was Audrie Chaney, Kayla Richardson, Rachel Widmer, Sarah White, and Shayla Foster.

The Lady Hornets have a big weekend ahead of them as they prepare for the Clarksville Softball Tournament getting started tonight. At 5 p.m. Hackett will take on the Perryville Lady Mustangs.

“BA” May was bad news for Mountainburg batters

The Lady Arrows didn’t let the cold slow them down. BethAnn May led the Lavaca Lady Arrows to victory on the rubber. She didn’t allow a single run against Mountainburg, in a complete game shutout and leading Lavaca Lady Arrows to a 11-0 victory tonight. On the night she allowed one hit and zero runs over five innings, striking out eleven, and walking zero.

Lavaca scored five runs in the third inning. The offensive onslaught by the Lady Arrows was led by Tessa Leonard, BethAnn May, Morgan Taylor, Brianna Winchester, and Sierra Lamb, who all drove in runs. Lavaca had ten hits in the game. Jessica Flanagan, Morgan Taylor, and Tessa Leonard all had multiple hits for the Lavaca Lady Arrows. They each had two hits to lead the Lady Arrows. The Lady Arrows ran wild tonight, stealing a total of 15 bases, 4 of them by Leonard.

Next up for the Lady Arrows will be the Clarksville Softball Tournament which starts tomorrow. Lavaca will play at 3:30 on field F4 against LR McClellan. The Tournament will conclude on Saturday at 9:30 PM.

The Mansfield School District is accepting School Choice applications for the 2019 – 2020 school year.

Applications for School Choice must be turned in to the Superintendent’s Office or post marked no later than May 1, 2019.
