Castor took the win for the Golden Arrows and moves to 1-0 on the season.
Kyler Stumbaugh took the loss for Westside.
I asked Coach Headley what he had learned about his team tonight. While he was pleased he acknowledged there are some areas he wants to continue to improve. He had this to say, “I thought we played pretty well. I thought Trey had a good outing. I want to get our pitchers to start hitting their spots a little better. Thought we were competitive at the plate. Good start…few things we need to fix but very pleased to get the W.”
The Arrows will travel to Mountainburg on Thursday for a 4:00 non-conference game against the Dragons.
I recently had the privilege of attending a gun safety and training course at The Gun Cave Indoor Firing Range in Hot Springs, AR. It was truly a life changing experience, and I am so grateful to Jan Morgan and her husband Bob for having me.
I’ll be perfectly honest, I didn’t realize how naive I was until that day. I mean, I have had some close calls in my life. Once, I was approached late at night in the parking lot of my dorm room. Luckily a friend pulled up, and the situation changed quickly. The other, I was sitting at a stop light when gun shots rang out. Law enforcement were under fire with a convenience store robber. Lastly and most recently, someone came to our door in the early morning hours hollering “help.” Uneducated and naive, that door was opened, and I pushed my family inside and closed the door. I was standing on my front porch, alone with this bloodied beaten women. I learned later she was high on drugs. Subsequently, she was arrested and taken to jail.
I will say this, if it had not been for the grace of God in any of those situations, I could have been a victim of crime. It didn’t hit home until I took Morgan’s class. I listened to actual 9-1-1 calls of women being victimized. I was glad the lights were off, as I was sobbing like a baby. I was shaking uncontrollably at their blood curdling cry for help. My husband, who had joined me to take photos and video portions of the course, could feel my reaction, and reached over and took my hand.
Two things I learned about myself. First, that I am too trusting and secondly, that I am very passive. I don’t know where the line, of overly suspicious and aggressive is, but I do know one thing, something changed when Morgan would say: “this guy’s coming after your family.”
I now have a greater understanding of things I need to do both for myself and for my family. I highly recommend her course. Her training simulator, and facility is top notch. It is no wonder why people fly in from across the country and internationally to train at The Gun Cave.
Lastly, I wanted to add a special thanks to my good friend Gary Epperson who made all of this possible!
Nationally recognized Fox News contributor and Second Amendment advocate Jan Morgan is on a mission. That mission is simple, to arm and train as many people as she can. And, to teach women in particular, that a handgun is an essential, not optional, part of their daily wardrobe.
Morgan, who has been dubbed the First Lady of the Second Amendment, left the news field “because I was tired of reporting about good people dying. I realized I needed to get better trained myself.” That is when she began traveling two hours every weekend to train. “I went to a class, and it was very intimidating. I was the only woman.”
Morgan and her husband Bob Paskvich own The Gun Cave Indoor Firing Range in Hot Springs, AR. Both work flawlessly as a team and have educated over 40,000 people over the years in gun safety and education. “Guns save lives,” said Morgan. Adding that she’s only failed three individuals in the course and that was due to their inability to handle a gun safely.
People from all walks of life have participated in their training program, and return regularly to continue that training. Teachers, senior citizens, law enforcement and even entire families visit frequently. Morgan said she has had several students who have taken as many as three other concealed carry courses before coming to her because they still felt unprepared.
“I allow at least 8 hours for this course. I don’t understand how some are teaching what is required by the state police in a few hours,”said Morgan. One element unique to her program is her instruction on establishing personal boundaries.“In order to be a responsibly armed citizen carrying a gun in public places, it is imperative that you have given much consideration to your personal boundaries with your gun. In other words, you need to know what you are and are not willing to do with your gun in public places when lives are on the line.”
Throughout Morgan’s course, she reminds her students that it is more than simply purchasing and carrying a weapon, and that the responsibility should be weighed with heavy conviction. Additionally, she demonstrates the importance of mental readiness and ways to avoid victimization.
After instilling the importance of mental preparedness, Morgan teaches the four most critical components of firearm safety. “There are people carrying concealed in mass shooting situations. The problem is they freeze up.” Morgan stressed the importance of training, maintaining and recognizing one’s personal boundaries.
Paskvich, Morgan’s husband teaches the law portion of the course. Paskvich is a NRA certified pistol instructor, Arkansas State Police certified CHCL instructor and NRA certified Range Safety Officer. You can access the Arkansas Concealed Handgun Carry Licensing law in its entirety HERE.
Another element unique to Morgan’s range is the simulation technology. Morgan’s wall screen creates a virtual reality training scenario for her students. It also allows the student to engage in verbal interaction with the perpetrator with random reactions. For example, one simulation scenario has the student inside of a school building with an active shooter. The versatile simulator is one piece of technology that brings people to the range from all over the country.
After each student trains on the simulator they are sent over to the live firing range. Each are accompanied by additional staff instructors for one on one supervision.
Morgan is extremely passionate about educating and fighting for citizen’s gun rights. Her motto is, it’s not a privilege, it’s your right to own and carry a gun. Her fight for that freedom takes her regularly to our state’s capital to lobby on behalf of the people. In fact, Morgan was a Gubernatorial candidate in the 2018 Republican Primary Election.
One of her most recent projects is her 2A Women, “Skills Save Lives” project. “My organization, 2A Women, has a scholarship fund that we use to pay for firearms training for women who can not afford to take a class or purchase a firearm. This will help single moms, domestic violence victims, struggling college students, and women who do not have the financial resources to cover the cost of a gun and training. A $10, $20 or a donation in any amount will help cover costs associated with her class materials, a gun, target and critical defense ammunition.”

The hours of operation are:
Sunday: 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

The two times a year we change our clocks also serve as a valuable reminder to change the batteries in our fire alarms. Only half of Americans actually follow this practice.
Here’s what you need to do:
Lift, twist, or remove the cover. (In some cases, the whole alarm will come off from a base.)
Replace the battery with a brand-new one. Most machines use 9-volt batteries.
Close and snap the detector back into place.
Press the test button to make sure it’s working. You should hear a beep or chirp sound.
Start off the spring season safely knowing your fire alarms are functioning properly!

On March 1, the Waldron Bulldogs hosted the DeQueen Leopards to a little game of baseball. Playing their second game of the season, the Bulldogs already have great team chemistry and a rhythm to the madness. Although Waldron lost Fridays home non-conference game, it wasn’t from a lack of trying.
By the second inning, DeQueen had already put five runs on the board leaving Waldron behind with one. Refusing to go down without a fight, the Bulldogs put three runs up in the fourth inning bringing the score to 5-4 Leopards. After all was said and done, the final score of the evening read 13-6 DeQueen.
Batting for the Bulldogs was Braden Williams and Caden Fuller with two hits apiece. Also helping out with one hit each was Drake Carnley, Clayton Montgomery, and Tyler Owens. Assisting with their quickness in the runs department was Braden Williams with two and Clayton Montgomery, Drake Carnley, Payton Brown, and Tyler Owens with one each. In a sport where stealing is a good thing, Drake Carnley, Payton Brown, and Braden Williams all accomplished stealing a base.
When it comes to pitching, the Bulldogs are blessed with three extremely talented pitchers. Seth Hunt ended the game by throwing out 94 pitches. He faced 27 batters and struck out three of them. Clayton Montgomery ended the game with a pitching record of 42. He went up against 12 batters striking out four of them. And knocking out 27 pitches to five batters striking out one was Caden Fuller.
Waldron is anxiously awaiting their next ballgame on Thursday, March 7 when they get to face the Booneville Bearcats on the Bulldogs home turf at 4:30 p.m.
Nothing is better on a Friday night to me than a good Red Box Movie, homemade burgers and fries, and chocolate chips cookies! This is one relaxing night for me! We call it “picnicin’ in the living room,” because I let the kids eat in the living room instead of at the table. We are a very traditional family, and we try to have dinner every night at our table and talk about how our day went. However, the kids think that it’s a treat if they get to eat in the living room. When they were really small, we would lay a picnic table cloth on the living room floor for them to sit on and watch the movie. The clean up was so easy and less stress as well!
Once we started filling our freezer with deer meat, I went on a hunt for a good burger recipe since we love burgers at our house. If you have cooked much with deer meat, you know that it isn’t like beef. It does not stick well together. So, making a patty with it and no other ingredients would never work. You could try but most likely the patties would fall apart in your skillet while frying. This recipe was shared with me from one of our local Mansfield teachers, Mrs. Howell. Her husband is an avid hunter. It’s absolutely delicious! I have added a few other spices that I tend to add to all of my recipes as well as adding a tad bit of bread crumbs to the patties. I had a little trouble the first go around with the patties falling apart while trying to flip and fry when I had no bread crumbs. So, I decided some bread crumbs might help, but you do not want to add too many to your patty because if you do then you will have more of a fried meatloaf patty with BBQ sauce instead of ketchup! This burger is juicy and will be full of flavor! You won’t want another beef burger after having one of these delicious deer burgers!
Ingredients:
2lbs of ground deer (or beef)
½ cup of Shredded Monterey Jack Cheese
¼ cup of BBQ Sauce
3 tablespoons of bread crumbs (This is optional if you think you can keep them from falling apart while flipping and frying then you do not have to add these, but if you are needing help keeping the meat together you could add this. Another option is using half deer meat and half beef meat to have a stronger built patty.)
Season Salt, Cracked Black Pepper, Garlic Salt, and Cavender’s Greek Seasoning, and Flaked Onion- these seasonings are all contingent upon your like and taste
Don’t forget the Hamburger Buns!
*Any other burger toppings you desire
Directions:
Combine ground deer, shredded cheese, BBQ sauce, and seasonings.
Mixing spices to make into the patty!
Shape meat into patties about 1 inch thick. Then, make sure you push a 1/2inch indent into the center of the patty to help the burger to not form into a dome. Burgers will stay super moist due to the BBQ sauce and the cheese.
Don’t forget to make your dome on the top of your patty!
Do not place in a skillet and cook on high. Warm your skillet to medium heat and slightly coat with butter. Place the burgers with flat side down and indention side up. When cooking a burger, you want to start on medium and allow each side of the patty to cook for approximately 4 to 6 minutes before trying to flip it. You be the judge, but you do not want to overcook, and the burger be dry. You also don’t want to cook too fast, and the burger be raw. I always do a little knife test and cut a little slit in the top of the patty to make sure blood doesn’t run out that way my burgers are well done before removing them from my skillet.
Tips-Before removing from the skillet, throw a slice of cheese on the patty to melt as well as adding your top bun to add some warmth to your bread.
Extra Info-Do not try cooking this burger on a grill, because with all of it’s yummy ingredients, the burger will fall apart most likely. Also, remember, do not flip the burger too soon. Let one side completely cook before flipping.
If you are looking for a yummy secret side sauce to go on your burger and fries try this:
Ingredients:
¾ cup of Mayo
¼ cup of Ketchup
¼ cup of Sweet Relish
2 Tablespoons of Worcestershire Sauce
Season Salt
Instructions:
Combine all the above ingredients and mix well. Taste and adjust the sauce to your liking, adding just a tad of season salt to taste.
Enjoy!
Yummy Deer Burgers with a side of Secret Sauce to dip your fries in!
