Lavaca Alumni Spotlight – Payton Morris

Payton Morris is a 2015 graduate of Lavaca High School and is this weeks Alumni Spotlight. While at Lavaca, Payton developed his leadership qualities as a member of the football and baseball teams as well as Student Council and Beta club amongst others. Payton is currently a senior at The University of Central Arkansas, majoring in Physical Education/Health with a Coaching Endorsement.

Payton Morris. Go Arrows

Last football season Payton was a Volunteer Coach at Vilonia High School where he worked with the wide receivers and assisted with everything else that comes with high school football. This year he is an Undergraduate Assistant at UCA. Payton is working with the running backs coach, Taylor Reed. Coach Reed was a graduate assistant underneath Coach Dan Enos at the University of Arkansas for the past two years before coming to UCA. Payton is excited about this opportunity and said, “It’s been an absolute blessing to be able to learn and work every day with a coach of his caliber, and I’m trying to soak as much of it up as I can.” Some of his main responsibilities include directly assisting Coach Reed and the offensive coaching staff with their daily duties. Payton’s primary tasks are to assist coach Reed with recruiting, practice plans and scripts and all meeting sessions. On game days Payton can be found on the sidelines holding the personnel signs for the offensive.
Coach Payton Morris

Former Coach Mark Headley had this to say about Payton, “Payton is a great young man! He will be a very good coach. He has a passion and enthusiasm that will take him a long ways in this profession! I wish him the best of luck!” We here at R22 News are excited to see what the future holds for Payton. I know that he has the work ethic and attitude to excel. Good Luck in your endeavors Payton.

State Runner Up!!!

What an incredible season the Lavaca Lady Arrows Volleyball Team had! It’s hard to believe that the season has come to an end already. Today the Lady Arrows went as far as the season would allow. They did not get the results that they were hoping for today, but they should be very proud of the way they performed all season long.

State Championship Game

Lavaca carved up the 2A west this year capturing a co-championship with Hackett. They dominated their District Tournament and were crowned District Champions. Then they rolled up the completion in the State Tournament, which sent them to the first State Championship game since 2008. They came up just short of their goal, falling to Crowley’s Ridge in 3 sets.
Senior Leadership!!

State runner-up is not what they wanted, but it is a great feat and they have nothing to hang their heads about. The school and community are proud of these ladies. Thank you Lady Arrows and coaching staff for the way you represented yourselves, LHS, and the City of Lavaca. To the Seniors, Hope Headley, Abby Glidewell, Hannah Parsons, Abrie Rainwater, and Morgan Taylor, you will be missed but have built a legacy that will follow. The leadership and heart you displayed this year will carry you far in whatever the future holds for you.

Arrow Community Working Together

I love how our community comes together to support each other.  Tomorrow there was a scheduling conflict between our Lavaca Youth Football Homecoming event and the Arkansas State Volleyball Championship.  Lavaca Youth Football was able to move things around to ensue that those from our community who wanted to attend both events were able to.Alanna Kagen posted this on Facebook this morning, “Ok parents and coaches, homecoming times have changed due to volleyball has made it to championship. (Congratulations to the volleyball players first of all!!!) Now 3/4 grade homecoming will start at 4:45 pm so I will need all 3/4 grade to be at the high school football field at 4:35/4:40 pm. 5/6 grade homecoming will start at 5:30 pm so I will need all 5/6 grade to be at the high school football field at 5:15/5:30 pm. This way it gives everyone a chance to go support our volleyball players in the championship and still come to homecoming. Thank you, Alanna Kagen”
The bridge between the School programs and the youth organizations is vital to the success of our programs, and the efforts and last minute adjustments are greatly appreciated by LHS.  Felicia Owen had this to say in response,  “On behalf of Lavaca High School and the Lady Arrows Volleyball Team, I want to thank the Lavaca Youth Football League for adjusting the 2018 homecoming ceremonies and Lavaca vs. Paris football games Saturday, October 27 to allow our town travel time for the state tournament. I sincerely hope the entire community will travel to Hot Springs for the Volleyball State Championship game and cheer on our Arrows! Let’s show the state our Golden Arrow Pride! 💜💛
Sincerely,
Felicia Owen, LHS Principal”

We at R22 News want to wish both the Lady Arrows and the Lavaca Youth Football program good luck tomorrow!

As Always,
