Mansfield has been hosting track meets every year since the new high school was built in 2004. This will be the 14th consecutive year the Tigers have played host to the Tiger Relays.

On March 26, 27, and 29 the buzz about town will be the goings on at Mansfield’s Track Complex. With plenty of schools expected, the competition should be fulfilling for even the most casual observer.

In the past, Mansfield has accepted as many as 27 schools into their track facilities on any given one night. More of the same is expected as the Tigers host a Ribbon Run for seventh graders on Monday, March 26. The senior high event will join the action on Tuesday, March 27. Then the relays conclude with a junior high meet on Thursday, March 29.

Mansfield already hosted a small scale seventh grade meet on March 14. They are expected to host three more events later in the year with the Quad City Meet and both junior and senior high districts meets. That puts the school hosting seven events on the season.

“We want to take advantage of our facilities,” said Mansfield Coach John Mackey. “Many of our neighbors have let their tracks go. Ours was redone last season so we want to thank those responsible by offering up a first hand account of it’s use. It’s good for our local businesses as well. So many people come rolling into town during these events.”

Tiger home track meets typically start at 4:00 PM with field events. Running events generally take place about one and a half hours later. Depending on the number of teams, events could last until 8:30 to 10:00 PM.
