Kandis Howard Pours Heart into Teaching

Mansfield Middle School 5th and 6th grade Science Teacher, Kandis Howard likes to pour her heart, soul, pancake mix, eggs, and milk into her job.

Mrs. Howard recently taught a lesson discussing physical and chemical changes objects go through.  The class had been discussed the physical properties and how substances can be converted into something new with an outsider energy applied.  The 5th grade Middle School Science classed had the opportunity to watch the and explain the process of going from chemical versus physical changes.

Mrs. Howard, a graduate of Mansfield and 20 year teacher for the school, used the opportunity to help the 5th grade students learn the concept through pancakes.  What better to make students pay attention than have them anticipate luscious pancakes.  Students had to explain the process in how the pancakes were made by developing their writing skill comprising directions.  The students were able to explain the difference and even better eat the proof of the process.

Mrs. Howard has been teaching science for 5th and 6th grade the past three years.  She has a daughter Addison at the Elementary and a son Layton at the High School.  Mrs. Howard has helped grow a STEM oriented group of students that will compete later in this year at an annual STEM competition.

Mrs. Howard has put together field trips to Murfreesboro to mine diamonds along with many others.  Mrs. Howard utilizes activities almost everyday in order to enrich the educational process for students at Mansfield Middle School.  Great job Mrs. Howard we are lucky to have you working with our youth at Mansfield Middle School.
