Crosswalk Warrants Concern from Citizens

We’ve recently received two complaints over their concern of the crosswalks at the intersection of Huntington Avenue, and Grove Street in Mansfield, which is not only busy with kids using the crosswalk, but vehicles coming in and out of the School Zone, picking up, and dropping off children, plus normal traffic unrelated to accessing the school.
With one crosswalk crossing Huntington Ave. (Highway 96), which is always busy with traffic, and the other crossing Grove St. (East & West in front of Mansfield Middle School) which sees high traffic between 7:30am – 8:00am, and 2:45pm 3:30pm, each day. It’s fairly common to see at least 4-6 kids using both crosswalks before, and after school, and so is the travel paths of parents.
The RED ARROW in the below image points to the intersection of the crosswalk that’s mentioned above.

“I have seen numerous vehicles not stop for kids attempting to cross the street going to school at the intersection near the Dollar Store and the bridge. A child is going to end up getting hurt by a vehicle not paying attention. There are no cross walk guards, and people are too worried about getting in and out of there, not the safety of the kids in our community.”
“I am one of many parents who sit and watch cars rarely stop for kids in the crosswalk at Grove street and Huntington Ave before and after school. Cars go in and out very quickly, without any concern for the kids. Once car sped thru the crosswalk with two girls in the crosswalk. An SUV sits stopped in the crosswalk and kids have to walk around to make their way across the street. It’s only a matter of time before there’s a wreck or kid is hurt.”

MHS Quiz Bowl Qualifies for State with 3rd Place Finish

The Mansfield High School Quiz Bowl team traveled to Paris High School Saturday, March 12, for the 3-A West Regional Quiz Bowl Tournament.  After a long day of round robin play, Mansfield finished in a 3-way tie for 2nd Place with Danville and Paris.
Each team had the same win-loss record and each team had defeated one of the other two teams.  At that point tournament officials consulted the tie-breaker rules and determined the places based on total points in the three head-to-head matches.  After all calculations were completed, Mansfield walked away with 3rd Place and the opportunity to compete in the State Quiz Bowl Tournament in Mayflower on April 9.
Kayla Elmore, a junior and captain of the team, scored 25 personal points on the day and earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team.  Other team members include Tara Mott, Michael Hall, Glori Gatchell, and Rance Mickle.  The team is coached by Jeremy Holland.

Wild Game Banquet sees Record Crowd

If you were close to, or passed by the Mansfield High School on Saturday night, it would’ve been hard to miss the activities going on outside, the Bluegrass music coming from within the cafeteria, and the acres of parked cars.

A record crowd of 500+ people attended the annual Fellowship Baptist Church “Wild Game” Banquet which focuses on Faith, Family, Fun, and Outdoors. The event started at 4:00pm with activities for the kids, while Just Us played Bluegrass on the main stage inside.

Pastor Gary Martin stated, “It was definitely an amazing night. I’m at a loss of words on how to describe it. We couldn’t have done this without the help, work effort, and talents of our Church staff.”

The events of the night ended with a massive door prize giveaway where registered attendees were put into a drawing for items such as fishing poles, outdoor equipment, and a brand new BEAR bow.

Each year, the FBC Banquet has grown in size, and popularity. It’s definitely the best attraction for families to enjoy in our area, and one that people look forward to attending each year.

Event coordinator, John Byers added, “This banquet has grown each year, and each year it goes smoothly. The kids, and their families have fun, enjoy great food, amazing music, and God’s word. We’re truly Blessed.”

MES Celebrates Career Month with Special Guests

Mansfield Elementary Schools has a rich tradition of supporting the vivid minds of their students. The students left the homework alone for guest speakers to talk to individual classes, and some with visual demonstrations of their career path.
The month of January was Career Month at Mansfield Elementary School. In the counseling classes, the students learned all about different careers, as well as the skills and attributes it takes to be successful at a career.
We held a Career Day at the Elementary on January 29th. The students got to dress up as the career they want to be when they grow up. We held an assembly in the Tiger Den where each student came up and told us their chosen career.
Throughout the week of January 25th through the 29th we also had guest speakers come and talk to classes about their careers.
