Waldron School Board Approves ESS Rate Increase, Superintendent Vehicle Purchase

The Waldron School Board approved an increase in ESS rates, the purchase of a vehicle for the superintendent and several personnel matters during its regular monthly meeting Monday, August 10.

Board President Clay Woodall called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. Board members Konnor McKay, Angela Hunsucker and John Keener were also present. Board member Toni VanDeWiele was absent.

The board unanimously approved its consent agenda, which included minutes from the July 13 meeting, financial reports and expenditures, and a milk bid for food service.

During the meeting, Wes McDaniel with Ideal Impact gave a presentation outlining potential ways the district could reduce energy costs. The presentation focused on decreasing energy usage, extending the life of equipment and reducing humidity.

The board voted 4-0 to approve a $5-per-day increase in each category for ESS.

Board members also unanimously authorized the purchase of a used truck for the superintendent at a cost not to exceed $30,000.

Handbook changes were approved by a 4-0 vote.

District administrators also discussed preparations for the beginning of the 2026-27 school year. Meet the Teacher Night is scheduled for Thursday, August 13, from 3-7 p.m. Principals reported that their schools were prepared to welcome students back for the first day of classes Monday, August 17.

Superintendent Daniel Fielding provided the board with an update regarding the roof at Waldron Middle School.

The board also took action on several personnel matters. Members unanimously approved extending Melissa Brewer’s contract to 230 days, retroactive to July 8, 2026.

Irvin Brohammer was hired as a Level I bus driver with one year of experience for the 2026-27 school year. The board also hired Chris Lipham as a Level I bus driver with 25 years of experience. Both personnel actions were approved 4-0.

Following completion of the agenda, the board voted unanimously to adjourn.

The meeting ended at 7:43 p.m.
