Lucky may have arrived in town as a stray, but these days the shop cat at Dave’s Small Engines has a business, a family and even his own tracking device.
Owner Craig Johnson said Lucky was originally staying around the local post office, where strangers made sure he had something to eat. But when the wandering cat discovered Dave’s Small Engines, he apparently decided he had found his forever home.
“He takes up with some of the customers,” Johnson said.
Sometimes, Lucky takes that friendship a little too far.
Johnson said the adventurous feline has made several unexpected trips aboard customers’ trailers as they hauled their lawnmowers away from the shop. Lucky may have been looking to hitch a ride, but fortunately, he has always managed to find his way back home.
After discovering their unexpected passenger, one customer jokingly asked if the shop was running a special: get your lawnmower serviced and get a cat for free.
Following a few of Lucky’s traveling escapades, Johnson decided it was time for a little extra insurance. Lucky now sports an Apple AirTag on his collar, making it easier to keep tabs on the shop’s most adventurous employee.
He may not turn a wrench, sharpen a blade or repair an engine, but Lucky has clearly established his place at the business.
The sign may say Dave’s Small Engines, but anyone who has met Lucky knows who really runs the shop.
