MMS Utilzes STEM for Fun, and Learning

Congratulations to the Mansfield 5th/6th grade STEM Team on a job well done at the Paris STEM Olympiad on May 5. Overall there were 17 school districts, 4 private schools, and some home school groups participating with approximately 1,000 project entries from grades 5-12. Led by their 5th/6th grade science teacher, Kandis Howard, Mansfield competed in six events within the 5th/6th grade division. Mansfield came home with 6 of the 18 top honors, completely dominating the people-powered cars event, taking 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Seth Carter, Braxton Byers, and Clint Stovall won 1st place by a good margin, going a distance of 169 feet. Greyson Baggett, Caleb Collier, and Clint Stovall came in 2nd with a nice distance. Chandlan Silvey and Travis Martin wrapped up the car event with 3rd place. In the catapult event, Chandlan Silvey and Travis Martin took 1st place with a distance of 83 feet 2 inches. Julia and Ryan Sadoski earned 3rd place in the Egg Buggy category, and Zach Hayslip and Tyler Turnipseed also placed 3rd in the toothpick bridge event. Way to go, Tigers!!
