The Sr High Waldron Bulldogs have been looking forward to this night the entire season. And its officially here. The first conference game of the season. The Bulldogs are sitting 8-2 in non-conference play while the Lady Bulldogs are sitting 1-6.
Last night the Jr High Bulldogs played the Greenland Pirates. The boys’ team won their game against the Pirates 38-28. That puts the Jr Bulldogs at 1-1 in their conference play. Trenton Hunt scored 19 points and Camdon Holcomb brought in 9 points in their match-up against the Pirates.
With the Jr High and Sr High Bulldogs doing exceptionally well in their basketball season, tonight the Bulldogs will head to West Fork to take on the Tigers with start time at 4 pm. Coach Joshua Atchley gives his thoughts on tonight’s game. “West Fork will be another tough road test in conference play. It is always a unique experience playing in the Tiger Dome and with back to back road games, we will see about our mental toughness and depth. Our guys keep growing and hopefully will be playing our best ball at the right time of the year.”
The Jr High and Sr High Hackett Hornet basketball teams are turning out to be lean, mean, dunkin’ machines as they fly through their season. The Sr High boys and girls teams are both 3-5 in overall play and 0-1 in conference play. The Jr High boys and girls teams are bringing in the wins as well and starting to make a name for themselves.
Head boys Coach, Broc Adams, said this about his Sr High team. “We still have a lot of work to do but they never quit. Whatever group goes in, the boys continue to play hard regardless of the scene.” The boys have secured wins against Green Forest, Lead Hill, and Mulberry.
The Sr High girls team is working extremely well together and that is showing through their play on the court. The Lady Hornets have brought home wins against Mansfield, Mount Judea, and Mulberry. The Hackett Hornets will be facing the Hector Wildcats in tonight’s game. The Sr High Wildcats are 0-6 in their overall season play while the Sr High Lady Wildcats are 3-6 in their overall season play.
The Jr High girls and the Sr High Hackett Hornets will roll into Hector tonight December 11th to face the Wildcats with game time starting at 5 pm.
The Waldron Jr High Bulldogs wrapped up their week-long Arvest Classic this past Saturday, December 8th. The Classic ran from December 1st through December 8th. The tournament consisted of teams from Waldron, Mansfield, Ozark, and Danville.
The Waldron Bulldogs boys and girls teams ended the tournament in 3rd Place. For the boys’ team, Danville placed 1st and for the girls’ team, Ozark won the 1st Place title. A good time was had by all and all of these teams were able to get in some quality playing time.
The Lincoln Wolves are comin’ to town and the Mansfield Tigers are ready for em’. The Tigers will be hosting the Wolves and both Jr High and Sr High teams are going to get the chance to take a shot at them. After some much needed time off, the Tigers are rested and ready to get back out on the court.
The Tigers and Lady Tigers Sr High teams are tied in their seasons’ record. They are 2-4 in overall play and 0-1 in conference play. All that is looking to change tonight though as the Tigers prepare to show the Wolves, who is in charge around here. The Lincoln boys team is sitting at 5-3 in overall non-conference play. The Lady Wolves are 7-3 in overall non-conference play. Tonight’s game against Mansfield will be Lincolns first conference game of the season.
The Tigers are ready to show off their hoop skills. But they can’t do it alone. These basketball programs are going to need the fans support in order for this sport to grow. It does wonders for a young persons self-esteem to look up and see packed stands. If you find yourself needing something to do tonight, find a basketball game and show your support. Enjoy some hot nachos, a cold soda, and a hometown basketball match.
The Tigers will be hosting the Wolves tonight December 11th starting at 4 pm.
The Hackett Hornets Bowling team played a good game last night against Haas Hall. Although the Hornets didn’t walk away with a win, they are looking to polish up some areas and get ready for their next match. The boys’ team lost by 40 pins and the girls’ team lost by just over 100 pins.
Pacey McBride was the top scorer for the Hornets boys team, bowling a 170 average. Tanner Wright was next with a 160 average. For the Lady Hornets, Kayla Richardson was the top bowler with a 140 average.
The Hornet Bowlers are working hard to perfect their scores and are excited about showing off their “striking” skills during the rest of the season. Hackett will have their next bowling match this Thursday, December 13th at Midland Bowl against Van Buren at 4 pm.
The Hackett Hornet Bowling Club is settin’ em up and knockin’ em down. Their bowling season started with their first game on December 3rd against a very talented Alma team. The boys’ team fell short by 85 pins while the Lady Hornets won their game by 100 pins. All games are played at Bowling World in Fort Smith unless otherwise indicated and the matches start at 4 pm.
The Bowling Club is lead by Coach Matt Whitsett. The top bowler from the Hornets team is Pacey McBride and the top bowler from the Lady Hornets is Kayla Richardson. Pacey McBride ended his match against Alma with a score of 226. Along with Kayla, Rachel Widmer and Audrey Chaney also bowled a really good game against Alma.
Playing for the boys’ team is Pacey Mcbride, Tanner Wright, Nathan Childs, Kobe Stanfill, Layne Dennis, Barrett Locklear, Blayde Chappell, Kade Banning, and Hunter Christenberry. Playing for the ladies team is Kayla Richardson, Audrey Chaney, Rachel Widmer, Kenady Wright, Hailey Reves, Chloe Patton, and Mason Hice.
On Thursday, December 13th the Hornets will play against Van Buren at Midland Bowl. Then on Friday, December 14th, the Hornets will play Mt.Pine.
Although this last day of “Oh Fudge” is coming to an end, I saved the best for last. This fudge has tons of flavor packed into one bite that you won’t want to stop at just one sample. It honestly tastes like a candy bar more than fudge.
In this last Boyd Christmas Memory, I bring you the epic Santa sleigh ride with the Boyds!
A few years ago, I happen to be scrolling on Facebook and saw the Santa sleigh rides in a near by town for only $10 a family. I am all for the bargain!! So, first let me just say, my kids loved every minute of it but the adventure is one my kids will never forget!
We typed the address to “Santa’s house” into the GPS and away we went. We arrived in a secluded place in the country and drove down a graveled lane. We pulled up to a trailer house that had a barn (shop) beside it. “Santa,” “Mrs. Claus,” and their two grandkids were all outside waiting for people to arrive . Santa was sitting in a wagon with two ponies with their antlers headbands on, and Mrs. Claus directed us where to park in their front yard. As soon as I got out of the van (I hadn’t even got my kids out), she awkwardly was standing at my door. She said, “So, what are we doing today? Santa rides or pony rides?”
I replied, “I think we are going to ride on the sleigh.” We started to walk over to the wagon and Mrs. Claus says, “Now, Mom and Dad, y’all riding too?” I told her politely that I didn’t think we would all fit and that my oldest daughter could hold our youngest son at the time who was almost a year old. She assured me with her toothless grin (yes–toothless–I think Mrs. Claus ate one too many candy canes) that we could all ride. So, one by one, we loaded up and once we were all in, Santa (we were waiting for him to holler-HO HO HO!) instead hollers “He-yah!”
Then, I couldn’t help but start laughing. I looked over at my husband and said, “Honey, I think we are too fat for them to move!” He started laughing. Then Olivia, my oldest daughter, started laughing. It was like we couldn’t keep it in.
I told him, “Think about it … These two poor ponies been pulling around little kids and here, our family gets on here. This pony is probably thinking what in the world!!” My husband tells me to shhhhhhssss! So, I try my best to settle down but the laughter was hard to contain the more Cowboy Santa tried to get his ponies (well his fake reindeer) to move.
In the mean time, Cowboy Santa has hollered “he-yah!” probably five more times while we have sat an awkward few minutes. Santa hasn’t said a word to the kids but it was fine because Bubba, my oldest son, acted in shock that he was really in Santa’s sleigh. He was grinning from ear to ear. My daughters are now giggling because Mom said we are too fat to move!
Finally, Cowboy Santa hollers to toothless Granny Claus, “MRS. CLAUS! I need your help! They are being stubborn!”
I politely asked her if me and my husband needed to get off and that it would be fine because I realized we were big people so it might be too much for the ponies to pull. However, Mrs. Clause gives me that beautiful toothless grin and says, “Oh no! It’s ok! I will get ’em going!”
Then, she leans down in the pony’s face and says, “Now listen here, Mercy! They need a ride!” And she tugs and pulls at their reigns.
Then cowboy Santa hollers, “Lets go! Mercy! Lets go Mandy!” Nope. there wasn’t a Rudolph, Donner, Cupid, or Blitzen attached to the wagon…I mean “sleigh.” Instead, Mercy and Mandy were guiding the way! Very very slowly these poor ponies start trotting off. It was like we were in slow motion. I was laughing so hard I was crying. But, still Cowboy Santa never said a word. It was if he was in his own world and he had forgot he had passengers in the back.
Away we went down their gravel path. Bubba, my son, was grinning from ear to ear. Abbi, my youngest daughter, was giggling. To them, this was the best thing ever! We were talking to Bubba, and then he asked, “Why aren’t we going in the air, Momma?”
So, I leaned over and tried to whisper to Cowboy Santa who couldn’t hear very well that Bubba keeps waiting for us to “blast off” into the air. Cowboy Santa chuckles and slaps the reigns and hollers, “Come on, Mercy!”
And all of a sudden, Lord, have Mercy we took off —fast! Mercy was like a race horse let out of the gate! Bubba’s eyes were huge. He really thought we were going to go in the air. Instead, they continued to pick up their speed. I was afraid we were going to go into the air and land on the ground. I guess the ponies got use to our fatness, and for some reason, Cowboy Santa thought Bubba’s blast off meant speed up as fast as you can with the ponies! The kids were having the time of their life, while we were holding on for dear life!
Finally, the ride, came to a sudden halt, and we all piled out. Mrs. Claus gave the kids her homemade chocolate chip cookies and hot chocolate. Then, the kids went inside their “Santa Shop,” and stood for a picture with Santa. None of them wanted to sit on Cowboy Santa’s lap; therefore, we didn’t push the issue. I decided that Mrs. Claus is for sure running this show and checking off who’s been naughty or nice. We thanked them for the wonderful adventures and Mrs. Claus replied, “OH! You’re welcome ! We just do this for the kids!” As we scrambled to get the kids in the van, Abbi turns around and says, “Hey! I didn’t get my hot chocolate!” I told her she would survive and it was time to load up and go. The kids waved goodbye to Cowboy Santa and toothless Mrs. Claus and slowly they disappeared as we drove off. We had a wonderful time with Cowboy Santa and toothless Mrs. Claus! It wasn’t much and it was cheap but the kids thought it was awesome. It created so many laughs and memories that I will never forget!
So, for Day #7 of “Oh Fudge,” I bring you “Cowboy Santa’s White Chocolate Carmel Fudge,” because sometimes if you throw a bunch of randomness on your fudge (or your sleigh), you may just be a little nutty!
All loaded up on Santa’s sleigh and ready to go!
White Chocolate Carmel Fudge Ingredients:
3 cups of White Chocolate Chips
1 (14 oz) can of Sweetened Condensed Milk
4 Tablespoons of Butter
½ Teaspoon of Vanilla Extract
1 Cup of Chopped Pecans (equals a 4 oz bag)
½ cup of room-temperature of Carmel Sauce
Instructions:
Line a 8×9 pan with foil or parchment paper and spray with cooking spray. Set pan aside.
Combine white chocolate chips, milk and butter in a medium glass bowl. Heat in the microwave for 90 seconds. Remove and stir to combine. Heat for another 15 seconds only if needed. There will be a few pieces of unmelted chocolate.
Next, stir until mostly smooth with just a few flecks of unmelted chocolate. Add vanilla and pecans, and then stir. Scoop into lined pan.
Spread to 1-inch thickness. Drizzle with carmel sauce. Lightly swirl carmel into the fudge using a butter knife.
Chill until ready to serve. This fudge can be stored up to a week in the refrigerator.
The Waldron Arvest Classic was held from December 1st through December 8th and was a huge success. Waldron, Mansfield, Ozark, and Danville competed in the Classic this year with all teams showing up ready to play. The Lady Tigers placed Runner-Up in the tournament behind Ozark. The Lady Tigers also played and beat Waldron and Danville. The Tigers boys team won against Danville but ended falling short to Waldron and Ozark.
In the final round of the Arvest Classic, the Lady Tigers came up short against Ozark 36-15 but still walked away with 2nd Place. During the entirety of the Classic, the Lady Tigers played with heart and pushed themselves all the way to the final sound of the buzzer. The girls earned some quality play time during this tournament and are now ready for a new week.
The Tigers went 1-2 in the tournament beating Danville and losing a close one to Waldron in their first two games. Although they were impressive on the court, they lost 28-18 in their game against Ozark in the final round of the tournament. The Jr High boys are striving for perfection and that is within their grasp. The coaches and Tigers will continue to practice hard and polish up on their game as they move into this weeks schedule.

This week in Lavaca is another week packed full of opportunities to support the Golden Arrows. The kids of Lavaca Public Schools will be strutting their stuff all week. Activities will kick off on Tuesday, December the 11th with home basketball games. Jr High boys and girls followed by the High School boys and girls. The games will start at 5:00. The Arrows will take on the Magazine Rattlers in a conference matchup. Let’s Go Arrows!!
Wednesday, December the 12th the 7th Grade boys and girls will travel to Mountainburg to slay the Dragons. The Games start at 4:00. The 7th grade boys and girls are coming off of a great showing in Cedarville last Saturday. This boys team will look to remain undefeated and the girls will be flexing their muscles.
Thursday, December 13th both 7th grade teams as well as the 8th grade team will be taking on Butterfield in Van Buren. Games will start at 4:00. 7Th Grade
Friday the 14th, there will be a LHS Drama performance at the Lavaca PAC at 9:00 and then later that evening the Jr High boys an girls, and the High School boys and girls will look to SWAT the Hornets as Hackett comes a calling. This is a conference match up and will start at 5:00. You never want to miss this matchup.
Saturday, December 15th, The Lavaca Cheerleader will be heading to the Bank of the Ozarks Arena in Hot Springs Arkansas to compete in the State Finals Cheer Competition. Good Luck to the Golden Arrow Cheerleaders, and TAKE STATE!!!! Spa City Classic
Sunday afternoon December 16th the Band and Choir will wrap up the week with a concert at the Lavaca PAC. The concert will begin at 2:00. LHS Concert Band
This is a very busy time of year with the holidays. Christmas parties with family and friends, and hustle and bustle of shopping centers keep everyone busy. There is no exception at the school. These kids are also very busy. Please take the time to come out an support these Arrows. They have all worked extremely hard and deserve to cheered on.
The 7th Grade Hornets took to the streets and made their way to Tiger Country to play in the Mansfield Jamboree on Saturday, December 8th. The Hornets beat Union Christian Academy 22-14 and added their game against the Tigers to their win column. The Lady Hornets didn’t bring home a win from the Jamboree but they sure played with everything they had and proved that they will be a feisty team later in the season.
The Hackett Hornet boys team delivered quite the whoopin’ when they stepped onto the court for both of their games against the Tigers and the Eagles. From the starting tip-off to the final buzzer, the Hornets left their opponents in a trail of dust.
The 7th Grade Hornets will head to Mountainburg to play tonight, December 10th at 4:30 pm.
